I was told there would be three finalists conducting today, but in fact there were only two; myself and an "internal candidate," who was requesting a transfer from another campus.  This school district tends to promote from within, so I am not overly optomistic.  My rehearsal didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but was at least decent.  I had fifteen minutes warning that I was to conduct Suite Francais by Mihaud, which is a challenging work.  I made a blunder due to nerves in the final movement, but I think I felt it was more serious than the committee members.  My second interview went really well, but confirmed my suspicion that I’m over qualified for the job.  I will turn that one down if offered.  I don’t think it will be offered to me, since I have eight year’s experience as a head director and my potential boss had one half of a year.  Now I wait (and fill out more applications.)

Ouch. Not for the faux pas but for having more experience than the person you would be reporting to. Keep plugging along. r

That’s really smart of you to avoid that situation.

if nothing else, you are getting interview experience so when the right opening comes along you’ll be ready.

I’m sure the perfect job will come along, and when it does, you’ll be glad that you didn’t take a mediocre job (though it’s btter than your current one 🙂 instead. Don’t give up yet! 😉

Milhaud… did he work with Dave Brubeck?
