Another Entry about Very Little

Yesterday was a Day with Energy. It happened to be the day that Diane was coming and we were going out to lunch and she was planning to go to Goodwill so I was delighted to be able to go with her. Since my back hurts a lot if I stand for more than a few minutes, I had with me the cane that opens into a cute little seat. I walked around a bit and sat a bit and in the end, despite my trying not to buy anything, I got a nice dark purple sweat shirt with a shawl collar. I have never seen one like this before but it was the color that made me look twice at it. At this time of year, I can’t have too many sweat shirts.

I am in the middle of bringing my long sleeved tops and heavy sweaters into the bedroom and putting the short sleeved T shirts into the storage box. That is what I am going to complete when I have finished here. This is emphatically NOT a Day of Energy. Of course, I really didn’t expect it to be. I have noticed that I have never had two of these energetic days together. Usually I have one followed by one or two days when it is hard to do anything at all. However, I feel I am getting slowly better since I AM having one or two days where things can get done. During the time Fred was ill, at rehab and at home, and after his death I had a long period of time when I was both physically and mentally unable to do anything except the bare minimum.

I think I have mentioned that I am going to MS to visit my older son and then to NC to visit my younger son again for a few days so I am cheered by having something to look forward to! Of course, there is the problem of what to carry to wear since these two states have very different weather! Layers, I tell myself, think layers! I will make the decision closer to the date if I am going to take a heavy-duty coat or not…

Ok, time to get up and do something for 30 minutes, {I have so little energy today that I have to use a timer to get things done.}

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone. ~Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers}

I wish I could send you a bottle of magic energy! It’s lovely to be able to have energy for more than one day. I hope you have a great time visiting your sons. Have you heard anything back from the guy who was going to bid on building you an apartment in MS?

i never do anything for 30 minutes at a time. maybe 15 minutes and then rest. i hope you have a wonderful time with each of your sons. any news yet on your moving to north carolina? take care,

My day started off as a ball of energy that rapidly fizzled after going to the store in town to get milk. Now I cannot wiggle my way off the couch.

maybe mail your heavy coat to the NC son so it will be there for you, since you probably won’t need it in MS. At your time in MS will give it time to get to NC. And then you don’t have to worry about stuffing it in your luggage. 🙂 Same goes for any other clothing you won’t need in MS but will need in NC. And then you can mail the lighter stuff back to your house and take the heavier stuff on theplane (since I assume you will need the heavier stuff when you get home). 🙂 Kind of a pain in the butt to go to the post office or where ever to mail it, but it beats having to deal with a big (heavy) bag at the airport!

You can get a lot done in 30 minutes. I tend to be a cleaning sprinter myself. 30 minutes of blur and then I’m done.

I use my timer too, not so much because I haven’t energy to get things done around the house, but because I lack enthusiasm for anything houseworky most of the time! Somehow if we know it’s only for thirty minutes, it doesn’t seem so bad! hugs, Nicky

Energy…. something not only NY/NJ needs, but us too… I’m glad that you’ll be going out to see your sons again, something to look forward to!

You pegged it here. Day of Energy. Yep. Sweats have turned into my favourite clothing in the winter.

Very ingenious use of a timer 🙂 I’m glad you were able to have a day of energy when you could most enjoy it 🙂

I have been a widow for 23.5 yrs and the last 6 or 7 yrs I have noticed that I feel better when I have a trip planned or when the boys are coming. However my youngest (age 45) moved to England for work 7 yrs ago and after my first trip to see him in 2006 I realized how much better I felt when I have a trip planned. He married the next year and then the next year they had a baby girl which was 04. So since 04 I have made about 2 trips a year to see her but they came here Sept 11 which I really enjoyed b/c it was the first time my granddaughter had been here. Then they moved to Australia in Dec 11 so I have not made a trip since Dec 10. So with not going anywhere and them moving so far away it has been hard and I have been depressed some. They are having a baby boy in Nov 12 and I plan to go in March 13 when he is about 3 months old so he will be more alert than first born. It has been really hard to not have a trip planned for 2 yrs and my son that lives here in TX 6 hrs away hasn’t been here since July for a quick weekend. He will be here for 4 days at TKG and a week at Xmas and that always helps.

So I totally understand. I am glad that Diane takes you to lunch once a week, I think that is very nice of her to do. I wish they could help you financially. I’ll be 67 in Dec but I’m still working and my son in Austin moves around with his work so I don’t know what I’ll do when I get older b/c Australia is very expensive to live and I don’t care for the beach and all the fish and oriental foods and I’d rather stay in the US even though my grand kids are 10,000 miles away. I hope you start to feel more energy more days a week. I don’t have any energy after working 9 hrs a day so I live for the weekends when all I do is get my laundry done.

{{{{{{Hugs & energy!! }}}}}} 🙂

I’m having a low energy day myself. I had a good, happy, productive day yesterday, but then a horrible night — with no warning. It’s left me feeling dragged out and tired today so I’m having a pajama day. It’s fortunate when the need for a pajama day happens on a day when I can actually indulge in one. Hope you can take it easy and have more energy tomorrow, too.

Where did you get a cane that turns into a seat? I could really use one of those. Insurance wont cover a wheelchair for when I am out, theyb said it has to be for home use mainly and I don’t need it for home….just out.

Hooray for awesome Goodwill finds!

I have a problem with standing very long also. I may have to start using Mom’s cane. I hope we both have an energy day tomorrow!

I find that I have less energy in the winter than I do in the summer. The cold weather makes me want to just sit snuggled up in a blanket with the heat cranked up! 🙂

It would be fun going on a trip. Here we need layers all the time because of the Chinooks.
