Fun at the Bank!

I have two bank accounts. One is my personal one and the other is the household account which I share with Fred. We have separate cards for the household one. For some time I have been using my personal card for household items. This was not a big thing since I went on line and transferred money from the household account to my personal account to reimburse myself. but the day before yesterday, I decided that I really must locate my household account card. I wasn’t worried about it being stolen since I monitor the on-line accounts every day or so, but I was beginning to feel a little uncomfortable about the fact that I didn’t know where I had put it.

Usually I put the household account in the pocket on my wallet/purse which is on the opposite side to the change purse and the personal account card goes on the side nearest my change. However, sometimes when I am in a hurry, and as an example let’s use the scenario of getting gas and standing in a low temperature and a freezing wind– I put the card in the pocket of whatever coat I am wearing. So, I searched the pockets of my winter coats. I found a five dollar bill and a handful of change but no card. Still not worried, I turned out my red leather purse thinking I might have dropped it loose in there. I found three pens and a notebook I had forgotten I had–  but no card. As a last resort, I looked in both the pockets of my wallet hoping I had just put it on the wrong side, but no.

So, yesterday I made a trip to the bank branch in the grocery store to cancel the card and arrange for a new one. I carried the check book we have for the household account so I would be able to show the teller the account number. I explained what I wanted and put the checkbook on the counter. "Oh, I don’t need that, " she said cheerfully and asked me for several items of identification all of which I produced. She canceled the card and told me that there would be a new card coming in the mail in a few days followed by a separate letter with the pin number. I thanked her and went to get salad greens and two bags of buy-one-get-one free Doritoes. I got out my personal card to pay for these and it was refused. "Oh," I thought, "wrong pin number." No, that wasn’t it. The %$#@& !!! teller had canceled the wrong card! So, back I went to the bank, and, yes, that is what she had done despite the fact that I had told her clearly that it was the card from the shared account I wanted to cancel and had even offered her the check book! So, I gave her the card in my hand to shred and she ordered a new one for my personal account . She went to talk to her boss about dates and times and both cards will be at the bank on Wednesday of next week and I can go and pick them up then. Fortunately, I did have a fair amount of money in my wallet which was a good thing because plans for the day included spending money!

To be concluded next entry.

I’m starting to hate banks. Mine muffed up my account too. Thankfully its finally settled. ♥

That would be ANNOYING! I never carry cash except when Art gives it to me from guitar lessons. My pay check is electronic. Since we are always broke, it gives me a good excuse to avoid raffle sales, etc. I don’t want to tell someone that I am BROKE. I’d be lost without my card.

Oh that’s so obnoxious!

Banks are ALWAYS screwing things up… 🙁 (huggles)

Yes, banks do make mistakes! Grrrr We’ve had a few instances of the teller taking money out of the wrong account despite having the correct number on the withdrawal slip.

It never fails that as soon as you order a new one, the old one will show up. I’m wondering where you will tell us you found it. Some obvious place, I’m sure!

You know, all of this would not had happened if she had just taken the checkbook and used the account number on it to begin with. We keep completely separate banks for our household, business, and personal accounts. It makes more work to reconcile, but it is much easier to keep them straight, too! Since I read backwards from this next entry to this one, I know it all has a happy ending! I’m soglad.

I discovered years ago that banks really don’t care much about us little “residential” accounts. If you’re not a big account, they sort of discount you. Shame on her for not listening to you. But I find that’s pretty common these days. Loves to you! ~M
