Today I called the dental office with two questions. The first was do I still need to take an antibiotic before having my teeth cleaned, The answer was yes and so I will pick it up at the drug store an hour before the appointment at 11 am tomorrow which is when I am supposed to take it.
The second question was about the x-rays that I was told I was scheduled to have. I was told this when I called to confirm the appointment. I asked why I had to have these and what would it cost. She could give me no reason except that I hadn’t had any for a while and they would cost around $125 in addition to the $80 plus it would cost to have my teeth cleaned. So, at that point I canceled the x-rays. If there is no good reason, why should I have them? I pay my dental bills myself so something that isn’t necessary is something I am not going to have. I have my teeth cleaned once a year and I have an electric toothbrush which I use twice a day.
Yesterday I went to see the ophthalmologist and was told that the eye drops were keeping the glaucoma well in check and that my peripheral vision was very good. I was also given the less-cheerful news that my eyesight was not going to be improved by a new eyeglass prescription. They would give me the prescription if I insisted, but that all I would be doing would be spending money for no improvement. So, I will wait another year.

trouble has come to you because you are depressed. You can change
your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to
correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working."

I ordered the KINDLE last night for my birthday. I wonder why you need antibiotics for a cleaning.

I was just watching a program on PBS about aging and eyesight and hearing and how the brain deals with things. It was very interesting, but I hated that some of it applied to me because I refuse to get older!

I took antibiotics before dental work for years, but now I don’t. My dentist says the guidelines have changed. I agree – I think we are given too many X Rays. I didn’t have the guts to tell my dentist I wouldn’t. Good for you.

From what I know of my folks joint replacements, you will always have to take the antibiotic before you go to the dentist.. It’s preventative. Precautionary. Call it what you will, I guess. I don’t blame you for cancelling the x-rays. I’m really tired of Dr’s and Dentists trying to milk every cent they can out of me. Good for YOU! Loves to you! ~M

I’ve never heard of taking an antibiotic prior to a cleaning. My dentist always considered annual xrays as a preventative –to catch an possible decay or cavity as early as possible, often resulting in a form of cheaper restorative or repair work.
