EDIT: Ok, I just went to the kindle forum and got the $50 off code incase anyone is interested

Enter the promotional code OPRAHWINFREY during the checkout process at Amazon.com to receive the discount. This offer is valid through November 1, 2008.

Yesterday I drove into town and went to one of the Big Box stores. I was amazed that there were so many people there. Why aren’t these people at work on a Friday morning? I am glad I don’t have to go today. I bought myself two cotton long-sleeved tops, a black, slightly-padded nylon vest and a rather nice red hoodie lined with false fleece. It is difficult to know what to wear at this time of the year so layering is the way to go. The annoying thing that happened yesterday is that I forgot my Kindle. Part of going on a retail therapy run is getting some lunch and reading my Kindle!

And talking about Kindle, did anyone see Oprah yesterday? I don’t normally watch but I did yesterday because it was all over the Kindle forum that she was going to talk about her favorite bit of technology and that it was a Kindle. And, yes, it was. She talked about how much she loved it and everyone in her audience got one free! Oh, and at her site there is a discount phrase for, I think, $50 off the price. But only until the end of this month.

I am putting off cleaning up this workroom. It has got to be done and I know when I start it won’t take long. It is just that I can’t get myself to start!

OK, plan for today:

  • get coffee
  • walk on treadmill {after coffee}
  • start on this desk which is the first step in getting this room done!
  • go to drug store to get my prescription refill and see if Fred’s has been called in yet.

Oh, I lead SUCH an exciting life, right?

The one thing I like about the idea of the Kindle is not having to turn on a light to read in bed – true, right? But I spend usually about $2 for a book, so it’s hard to consider spending much more. I did see Oprah- she’s over the moon for the Kindle.

I hope my husband or my children go in together to get me a Kindle! I just can’t justify it for myself right now while needing to get my business set up. That’s very cool about the discount though. Have a wonderful weekend! (((Hugs)))

How do you use kindle and what is it? Sorry, I don’t know. Thanks! Have a wonderful day!

That’s a bargain for the kindle. I dream of being in Oprah’s audience when she gives stuff away. I’d especially love to go during “my favorie things” day.

I think I am going to ask for a kindle for x-mas. seems like i am always running to the library for a book or two. i have to do some more research on them. they sound like so much fun.

This is why I want to go to Oprah’s show live, you always get free stuff, and the stuff isn’t necessarily cheap! *jealous* haha.

Wow, $50? That’s pretty good!!!!!

I like the idea of a kindle, but I guess I’m also old fashioned as I love a paper copy of my favorite books. Hugs,M

I like the kind of excitement that you have in your life! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

I wish that I was in Oprah’s audience. I find her hard to watch on a regular basis but I’d love a Kindle for free.

I want to be in Oprah’s audience!

I love hearing of your hip surgery experiences and I really appreciate the tips and advice, please always feel free to share with me. I do think I’ll need the tool to help put my socks on though; after I come home from my daughter’s house I won’t have anyone to help me put socks on. And I’ve just realized that putting pantihose on will be virtually impossible so I’m going to have to wear pants towork for awhile; I already do wear pants 2-3 days a week but all I have is 3 pair of pants suitable for work. Might have to go shopping!

i saw a bit of that show and am intrigued. i read a lot of obscure books that may not be available this way. but it does seem like a wonder. what a godsend for students not to have to lug heavy textbooks.

I hadn’t even heard of a Kindle until I started reading your diary. I need to get out more. 😉

RYN: I thought you got some exercises off the internet specifically for vertigo. Those were the exercises I was talking about!

October 29, 2008

i was wrong. it wasn’t sean bean in a recurring spot. he was just in the first episode. not all of them. i’m sorry if i got your hopes up. sorta dashed mine, too! maybe one day he’ll be on a program on bbc america. take care,

Wow thanks for all that information! I take it that “Whispernet” is the way the Kindle connects to the “internet”, so that means you can read a book that you’ve downloaded without having that connection open? The reason I ask is because I’m thinking it would be nice to have in the hospital after my surgery, but the hospital has a rule that cell phones must be turned off in patient areas because they interfere with some medical devices. If I understand it correctly, the Kindle connects online the same way some cell phones do, so I don’t think I could have the connection open while in the hospital, but if I can read a book that’s loaded onto it without opening that connection, I’d be ok.

I just ordered my Kindle with the $50 savings too! Thanks for letting me know about it, I’m really excited. I read a lot of reviews of the Kindle on Amazon after getting your input and in the end, I was sold!
