The Camera & Other Thoughts

You remember yesterday I wrote about the ISight camera not working on my IMac? Well, I finally called technical support. Now, I have griped about the ultra-annoyingly perky phone menu before so I won’t do that again. However, I want to put on record that telling me alternately "You are first in line" and "Please do not hang up." is NOT  something I enjoy listening to for ten minutes. {Yes, I timed it. I was thinking that all the techs had gone out to lunch! }

Eventually, I got a man named John who proceeded to have me do three different things. Right in the middle of the last one, which was checking everything plugged into the USB slots, I was disconnected. Now, apart from the irritation of having to go through their "press 1, press 2" menu again, I was all prepared to get VERY nasty if he tried to charge me for a second tech call. {I get one free and after that, I have to pay $30 per tech call!} But no, I asked and they were just putting it down as a continuation of the free call. However, the bottom line is "Bring it in!" I will do that tomorrow. I shouldn’t cost me anything because it has a 90 day warranty and I bought it at the end of June. In addition, I also bought a three-year upgrade of the warranty.

A total change of subject here. I was in the bathroom this morning  doing some throne-sitting and it occurred to me to wonder if the loos in England are still in a separate room as they were when I was growing up. I don’t know why that came into my mind but because of growing up in England, it always struck me as a bit odd that the toilets here in the States always seem to be in the same room as the bath/shower!

I learned something today! I didn’t know that the toilets were separate in England! It makes sense to me. Why keep other people waiting to use a shower/bath when all you are doing is your constitutional? Our two baths are combined though, so waiting is what we do.

In Germany its like that too, toilet separate, but I did go into some houses that had them combined too. The toilets sure were different than they are here though.

When I stayed in England years ago, my hostess had a separate room for the toilet, now that you mention it. And I think there’s a new trend here, too. When they built Mike’s home last year, the toilet, shower, and bath were all in the same room, but the toilet itself had a separate closet (at least, that’s what it felt like!) with its own door!

I’ve been reading about toilets in England in your notes. I never lived there past one year old. My mum told me that they were separate. As for calling companies with endless buttons to push, it DRIVES me CRAZY! I pretend to be buying their product when I am a customer to get instant service. Sneaky, I know!

I loathe having to be on the phone for getting tech support, and weaving through the endless menus. It’s a misery.

I hate getting a tech that does not speak very good English and does not understand what you are saying. I got one the other day and was quite upset by the time I got off the phone. Have a better tomorrow.

How aggravating it is to have to wait a long time “on hold”!!!! I’d have been very nasty indeed, if I had to wait ten minutes! :oO !! Hmmmm…. when we first moved to England, we lived in an English house in the town of Buckingham, and I think our toilet and tub were in the same room…. Here, a lot of the time, in hotels, the bathroom sink will be separate, and the toilet/shower together ina room. OH but come to think of it, I know of one person whose home as toilet/sink….and then, shower, in separate rooms!! That is Joey! It’s that way in his and April’s apartment! hugs, Weesprite

Oh my gosh! I hate all the press 1 for this and 2 for that, and then you finally get through with all that junk and you’re on a neverending hold. It’s one of my pet peeves. That’s interesting about the toilets not being in the same room as the tub/shower. Huh! Hugs, M

Thirty dollars per call???!!!!!!!1 I’m glad they didn’t make you pay twice. Got to love tech support… My toilet and bath and other things are in the same room, but I have a tiny flat. Like, my kitchen and dining table and couch and living room are also in one room.
