Sunday Entry

Another tomato almost ready to eat!

Yesterday I went for a massage. I did the right thing to go back to one every two weeks. The benefit that I am noticing the most is that my skin is far less dry and flaky than it was when I was going once a month.

We have had a lot of rain here which means a lot of standing water which leads to a lot of mosquitoes. I was sitting outside yesterday long before dusk and was driven indoors by the rapacious bloodsuckers. I wish they didn’t like me so much. And, yes, they still like me when I am wearing repellent only not quite as much! I will never forget the time when I went to a women’s weekend at the Y. I slathered myself with repellent since it was an outdoor weekend and I wanted to be able to enjoy it. Well, apparently, I missed one spot, the bit above my elbow but under my arm. And the next morning, I woke with this part hugely puffed up and hot! {This was the year after I had radiation for cancer and a side-effect was increased sensitivity to bug bites!} I had no benedryl with me but fortunately my cabin mates had some so the swelling subsided in an hour or so. Since then, I have become far less sensitive and, really, if I could only not scratch, there would be little or no problem!

Next week, I think, {I must really look that up} we have the book club meeting. We are reading The Saffron Kitchen which I am finding very hard going. I just can’t get interested. And this is not because it is a dead-tree book. I would feel the same way if it was a Kindle book! Which reminds me that the Kindle forum was all agog about the new "contact the publisher" button that Amazon has added to books that are not available on a Kindle. This button is something that people with Kindles have been requesting for a while. It lets the publishers know that there is a request for this book to be offered in Kindle format. What annoys a lot of people is that sometimes all the books in a series are not available for the Kindle. And, even more annoying, the missing ones are often books in the middle of the series. Talking about a series, I am loving the Ice and Fire {or maybe Fire and Ice } series by George R. R. Martin. I am reading book 4 right now and trying to make it last since, apparently, it will be some considerable time before the last book comes out.

Ok, I have had my morning banana and it is time for something more filling…

Until later…

The aggravating thing about George RR Martin is that the next book is already written and edited. When he wrote book 4, it was double-long. So he chopped it in half and reserved the second part. GRRRRRRRRRR!

Eating more garlic would help keep mosquitos from liking you so much. Honest, I’m not just making this up! I think there are garlic tablets or capsules you could take, if you don’t wish to actually EAT the garlic. Besides that, garlic has lots of other benefits too (but I’ll be darn if I can recall what they are right now!) hugs, Weesprite

You have a good crop of tomatoes! I see three more green ones in the wings.

Hmm, that one looks so way off being ready – at least for my tastes. I prefer them to be much riper. 🙂

two of my fave series are not on ebooks. Harry Potter (which I guess the author is HUGELY against because she is afraid of all the piracy, and personally, its not like she hasn’t already made BILLIONS on the damn things, but whatever) and then the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. Of course both of those series no longer have new books coming out, but they are both hugely popular series! Icould see if it was just a local publication that it wouldn’t be an ebook. Wow. This is totally turning into an entry! I’m sorry! lol as you can see, I would love to have one of those buttons for my own ereader! 🙂

We did the Saffron Kitchen for our book group about three months ago (okay, I checked and it was March), and we had a very lively discussion about it. I listened to it on CD, so I had a different view of it because the different characters were read by different readers, so it was easier to understand. People got confused by the different voices when reading the “dead tree” book. There were partsabout it that were liked, but most of us had problems with some of the plot, The great thing about a book that people object to is that it makes for a VERY lively discussion.

I understand the fifth book, A Dance of Dragons will be this autumn.

Another benefit of garlic that Woodsprite failed to mention but is very, very important is is keep VAMPIRES away!!! How could she forget that. And I learned that when I was quite young and watching movies. If that doesn’t work keep a cross with you. Don’t know if it works with mossies but will still work on the vampires. Be well…dan

Mosquitoes are the worst, worst, worst! One summer years ago, my house got infested with them and they bit me all night long. Citronella oil usually helps, but isn’t always 100% effective, plus it smells. It’s a good idea for readers to be able to contact the publisher on that, because there are so many books that aren’t currently offered in electronic format.

I am finally harvesting tomatoes, but not near in the amount I’m used to. Oh well, some years they are just not tomato years.

You should see the mosquito population here! They’re the size of a small helicopter!!! Holy cow!

It’s midges in Scotland that are around at the moment, causing many itchy bites!
