Computer Info

Since I had heard nothing from the guys who had my computer, I went round there first thing this morning. Basically the bottom line was that one cannot do much to restore a seven-year old PC running Windows 98. Well, I wasn’t really surprised to hear this since I had come to that conclusion myself. So, what is going to be done is to put all my stuff on an external hard drive and the whole thing, including the hard drive, will cost me less than $60.

Next, I went to Small Dog, our Apple shop. I was still telling myself that I was "going to look," but, as I told Fred, the fact that I had already transferred money from my savings into my checking account said a lot.  Now, you know how it is said that as one gets older, doctors and policemen get younger? Well, add "young men who work in Apple stores" to that! The young man who was answering all my questions didn’t look a day over 14!

I knew already that I wanted an IMac so I went to drool over them. In the end, I decided on the one with the 24 inch screen. {I would tell you all the geeky megahertz stuff and the gigabytes stuff but the receipt is still in my purse } Anyway, even though I have paid for it, I won’t get it until Thursday since it has to be shipped in from the other store in Waitfield.

Next, I went to Barnes and Nobles and got some rather horrid juice drink {called "Bohemian Raspberry" –avoid it} and sat down to read. A man passing through stopped and asked me, "Is that the new Kindle?" I had a lovely time answering all his questions. Eventually, I got some lunch and came home.

More about the new toy later when I get it. I am SO looking forward to playing with it!

Advanced age is a deterrent in the world of computers. My son built his first one on his 16th birthday.

Can you link the Kindle and iMac? wouldn’t that be sweeeet!!! Ask Apple people about this and wonder if it would do any good? Many of my building friends use the Apple products and find them super to PC’s. Son uses A and I think the next one I get may be. But I can build a PC myself and can’t with Apple, so who knows. be well…dan

What about Kindle? I so much like books and am surrounded by them… but at times the thought of not being surrounded by them, actually having space in my space sounds like a positive step. I ship out all the books I don’t want – over 250 in the past year – but keep getting more. Is Kindle the answer? Are you going to be able to transfer PC data to the Mac?

Oh, you are going to have a new “toy” soon! At least it won’t take you long to figure the ins and outs of this computer like it did when you first got your laptop. It didn’t take you long then, but you are more familiar with it now. I wish we had a Barnes and Noble closer to us. The nearest one to us is about an hour away. That’s why I generally just order off of Amazon.
