Slightly Longer Update

Ok, ceramics. I am undecided. The instructor seem Ok although he does speak a little too quietly at times. We learned to make pinch pots yesterday. We had to make two different shapes and two of each. Then we learned how to put them together with little "peas" of clay inside and make a sort of little {and in my case ugly} percussion instrument! What annoyed me was that he walked around to see what we were doing and he paused behind me and looked at my pots with wavy edges. It would have been a big help if then he had told me that the pots were going to be fastened together because then I would have gotten rid of the wavy edges! Anyway, sometime between today and next Tuesday, we all have to go back and make four mugs as near the same size as we can. {There is quite a lot of open studio time and we are going to need it if he keeps piling on the homework. }   I left later than I should have because I didn’t realize how long cleaning up clay took, but I will leave promptly next week.

Then I had to go down to the lower level and room 10 for Italian.  Well, I finally realized that the elevator I took went to the ground floor but NOT to the lower level so that meant finding the elevator that DID go to that level. I found it eventually and I wasn’t late for class. But I think next week I will just walk down the stairs. The instructor  had the name of the book she wants us to get and we did a lot of stuff I already knew like numbers, days of the week, months and seasons all of which we have a test on tomorrow! The teacher’s name is Jean and she is very different from Nicole, Perhaps it is a bit early to make this generalization, but I don’t think she is going to be as much fun as Nicole. Time will tell.

I then walked out into the cold muttering "Fa molto freddo!" {It is very cold!} and drove home. Oh, one odd thing as I drove out of the parking garage. Normally, one gets two free hours and then is charged 75 cents for every half hour after that. But the man in the little box had the barrier bar raised and just waved me through! I wasn’t going to argue! I drove home and had about two hours before I had to go out again to the book club meeting at 7 pm. I almost didn’t go but I am glad that I did because it was an enjoyable meeting and discussion. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find my copy of the book {A Tree Grows in Brooklyn} so I looked on with someone else. I think I accidentally put it in my Freecycle book bag and gave it away with the others even though I didn’t mean to. I will HAVE to go to the meeting in February because it is my choice of book and I chose The Hobbit! I will need to find out a little more about Tolkien because that is what one does when one is the book chooser! I will also have to say why I chose that particular book. It is because not only have I liked it for many years, but I found a copy in Italian in Italy and bought it.

And finally I went home, ate the supper Fred had cooked and went to bed early!

I sometimes think teachers just assume that you know certain things when you don’t. The ceramics class sounds fascinating, exciting and frustrating. 🙂 I’d love to have been at that book club meeting. I’ve read the book, but when I went to some on-line review, I found that I didn’t get anything out of it that I probably should have.

That’s what I call a busy day. You are an inspiration, Patricia!

*contemplates little ceramic pots* Ya know, I think I like the ugly little pots best, because they have a lot more character! I see great humor in such things. I would keep an ugly little pot I’d made forever, because just looking at it would cheer me up on blue days! :o) !! I am glad you found a reserve of energy so you could go to your book club meeting. I hate going out in the evenings too, butwhen I stir myself to do it I’m nearly always glad! hugs, Weesprite

pottery/ceramics is fun… but it’s a definite skillset to learn. Give it time and it’ll get a lot easier (I LOVED doing pottery at college even though I wasn’t ever very good at it. It’s so creative and freeing…) 🙂 (huggles)

Sometimes when I tried to teach someone some bit of needlecraft, I forget stuff that comes automatically to me and don’t think to tell them about it. I should expect though one who does it for a living to be a bit more on the ball.
