Yesterday & Today

Well, let’s see. In my wildly exciting life yesterday, first I went to the drug store and then to get my hair cut. Of course, doing these things was a Good Thing because I WALKED rather than took my car. When I went to get my hair cut, the wrong person was there. Karen is competent at hair cutting but no matter HOW many times I tell her I don’t wear my hair that way, she insists in styling it like a neat little boy’s cut with a parting! The minute I got home, I sloshed a bit of water on it and ruffled it up so it came out the way I like it! I am fortunate that experience has shown me that it is actually impossible to give me a bad haircut. But a bad styling? Oh, yes indeed! If it was summer, I would tell her not to blow-dry my hair because by the time I get home, it is dry, but I really don’t want to go out in the depth of a Vermont winter with wet hair!
In about an hour, I am going to drive down to the library and get a book they have for me. It is either a Dexter book or Sue Grafton’s latest. I stumbled across the Dexter books –and I am sorry I can’t remember the author–accidentally and was fascinated by them. They are first person narration by a very likable sociopathic killer!
On Thursday when I was being tortured by the physical therapists, I was watching a man having his PT at the same time. One thing he did really interested me. He was sitting up and he had his legs in lotus position.Now. because of the osteoarthritis in my hips and the pain from it, I have not been able to do this for many many years. But because I now have NO pain at all. I thought I would try it, and I can now do it!.   I cannot, as yet, get my knees down onto the floor and I am not forcing them. {I have this mental picture of the metal ball popping out of the metal cup!} But before the surgery, I could not even get my left hip and knee  to turn outwards because it hurt too much. {I am still thrilled that I can sleep on my left side with no pain.}
I start back taking classes next Tuesday and so of course, I have started having not-ready-to-teach anxiety dreams again. This morning’s was a situation where I was supposed to be teaching an art class to 50 students with another teacher. She went off to get more supplies since we obviously didn’t have enough for such a big number—and she never came back!  Anyway, I woke up feeling very glad that this was only a dream! I am not really anxious about these classes I am taking. My only fear is that taking two of them will be physically too difficult for me. The last time I took two, I had to drop one because pastels stopped being fun and became a chore. But then I was getting a grade. Now I am auditing and if the work becomes too much for me, I just won’t do it!
I am semi-working on losing a bit of weight, hence the ticker at the bottom. Of course, I bet I blew the 2 pound loss by eating a whole bag of caramels last night! I will be seriously working on weight loss once the weather gets better and I can get out more…

I love going to the hairdressers, but yes I completely agree, the way they style it is always awful!

yes, merlyn and i will begin to walk a lot more once winter is on it’s way out. til then, i grab us a walk whenever the road is clear enough. i’ve thought about going to the high school and walking on the sidewalk there. it would be perfect… just have to get my husband to fix my car today instead of putting it off! take care,

What is it with these hairdressers who want to part your hair down the middle, and then give you bangs, of all things! I do not part my hair like that, and they know I don’t wear bangs, but that’s the way they do it every time. Soon as I am out the door (sometimes even before) I just take my hand and run it through to make it look half way like me! lol.

RYN – I hope you didn’t think I was implying that you were any less American than the rest of us! I “exempted” you only because I figured you hadn’t actually lived in the U.S. for one-fourth of its history, as I and a few other geezers have. 🙂 And it strikes me that the title of this entry (of yours) was also the title of a Beatles album back in the 60’s (a USA album).

Dexter is a show on television….HBO maybe?

Your entries make me laugh. I just had a haircut where I told the hairdresser I have a cowlick in my bangs, so leave them on the long side. I now have short, little boy bangs.

Oh because of the writer’s strike, I think they are showing the Dexter series on CBS.

I am the same way about my hair. I have one particular stylist that I go to and she is one of the few that actually listen to me when I go to her.

I would be soooo irate if a hairdresser tried to do my hair some way I had just said I didn’t want it!! My reaction might make the national news! :oO !! hugs, Weesprite

I despise it when a hairdresser won’t listen to you. Glad that your hip seem to be doing so much better!! Hugs, M

I hate getting my hair cut, which is why it’s so long and starting to look “dowdy.” They always whack off too much (I want enough to make a pony tail when I go to the gym!) and it seems to take forever to grow back. I’ve never been able to get my knees to the floor when I sit cross-legged. The closest I can get to an actual lotus position is one foot on top and one underneath. Kind of a half-lotus. That’s really cool you can do that.

Yeah, you and me. I ate the lions share of a bag on Pecan Sandies on Monday. I KNEW I was using food as comfort, but I didn’t care at the time. Now I could kick myself, but what can you do? I went back to my slimfast and yogurt for the rest of the week, but I’m not sure it will make up for the Oop’s. Love to you! ~M

*huggs* and mmmmm carmels!!!! snaps for the lotus position, I could never do it!

I recently read the new Sue Grafton book T. It was good. What are the other books you were talking about? They sound interesting. Let me know when you find out.

I hate going to the hairdressers – but I really need my hair cut right now. I hate that I didn’t make time to do it when I was in Belgium – it is horrendously expensive here. Congratulations on your PT! So many people can’t get their knees to the floor, but its great that you are doing this now. It must be exciting. You make me intrigued in those books, though I’d hate them I’m sure. No, love the story – hate looking over my shoulder afterwards.

You wouldn’t believe the issues that David has when he goes to the hairdresser. He has just the opposite problem, instead of parting his hair, they make a puffy/spiky ball out of it. He will never get his hair cut before he goes to work because of that. RYN: I don’t think I get “zapping” pains from my hives, it just feels like thousands of bugs are all biting me everywhere all a the same time, and I want to crawl out of my skin. Overall, it’s a very miserable experience. Hugs, John

go to showtime (TV) and look up Dexter. You can view the episodes for free online. Both Rich and I are hooked!

I never like my haircut, so it’s still growing out the last bad cut. It ends up layered all wrong and I just hate it, but it needs to grow before it can be corrected. At least I’ve got enough curl that it still works no matter what if I want the windblown messy look!

[reading about the lotus position] Next thing you know, you’ll be doing yoga! I used to be so flexible, and mobile, now I just scuttle about like a crab…

Mmmmm… caramels. =) So glad the pain is gone! Yea! Yea! Yea!

It’s so funny that hairdressers are the ones who usually do an awful job of styling!!! I’d much rather do my own hair!
