Vermont DMV *

EDIT: I sent an email to the DMV telling them how pleased and impressed I was with the helpfulness and the ease of moving around their site. I asked if the email could be forwarded to the department and person responsible for setting it up. Well, to my surprise, this morning I got an email from the man responsible for the site! He thanked me and said he usually didn’t hear from users unless there was something wrong and finished by saying I had made his and his team’s day!
Today I got my renewal notice for my  license for my car  so I went to the web site of the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. There were two different ways I could renew and the first one was the one I chose because the instructions said that I could also change my mailing address. The DMV have me living at 45 B Ourstreet whereas long time readers will remember that we moved downstairs to 45 A Ourstreet.

So, the instructions say to put in my registration number. Now, which of all these numbers is this?  Then I notice that over on the side there is a picture of the form I have just received with the registration number they want clearly indicated.  The rest of the procedure was equally as clearly explained. The address change page arrived with one click, going back to the payment page was accomplished with one click, there was a section to check that everything I had typed was correct, and then one click gave them money for two years. Finally, there was a page to print as a receipt and a reminder that the little sticky pieces to go on my license will arrive in 5 to 8 days.
I the Vermont DMV on line!

In as much as paying any bill on line can be a good experience, this one was. Long-time readers can contrast this with the problems I ran into trying to access the Community College’s web site both to register for classes and to give them that $50 fee they charge because I am not a full time student. {And, yes, I still resent handing over that $50 every time I pay it mostly because not one person I ask can tell me, to my satisfaction, what it is for. And, it is in addition to any lab or model fees –for art classes–  that are charged.}

I think bills, in general, are just bleh. I know it’s not a very coherrent or adult thing to say, but… that’s what I think 🙂 No matter how great it goes, paying them is BLEH!

That does sound easy! We can’t do ours online, but at least they’ve made the DMV lots bigger, so the lines aren’t long anymore! hugs, Weesprite

My state used to charge $10 to do this on line. I just checked, and they don’t do that any more. Yippee! I just got my registration paid as well! Thanks.

As someone who just had to pay a county “personal property tax” for a CAR that I don’t even own (therefore it is not my property)…gah…how I miss Vermont.

We have to go downtown to re-register the car. Fun. I wish we could do it online!

We have online DMV’s in NY as well..how convenient!

Glad it was such an easy process! Hugs, M

I love being able to pay for things on line. =)

Remind me sometime (when you have a half hour) to share with you my stories of the DMV (or BMV depending on which state). Do I have some stories! None of them favorable.

ryn (to the comment on my blog)- I’ve written about the work problem here on OD. It’s the issue with my assistant principal that I’ve written about.

*huggs* bills!!!

I just took my renewal notice to the local VT DMV for a new picture license… I explained to the woman that I seem to be getting old rather quickly and need an updated photo!

I love being able to shop and pay for what bills I have on line, makes it a lot easier for me to keep track of everything and make sure it gets taken care of. And unlike the old style, no paper chases! Nice being able to point to the bank statement and say -but there’s a transfer to this company, so it’s -your- problem!-

How nice of you to let the site designers know you appreciate their work!

Wow, amazing that anything connected with the DMV is user friendly. Here we can’t do anything online, we have to go stand in a real line and deal with red tape and runarounds. But it was nice of you to send a complimentary email to the person who designed the site. Such user friendliness is a rare treasure and the people who created it deserved to know how nice you found it.

Hard to imagine how we got by without the Internet, isn’t it?

That sounds too easy! I don’t expect anything like that will ever happen here in Alabama… it makes too much sense! Kudos for giving a compliment to the web team. That was very thoughtful…..

I got my second gift today in the mail. Thank you SO much. I had such a hard time leaving that book at the bookstore, and have been wanting to read it ever since that day 🙂

It’s great to make people happy. 🙂

that’s awesome that he took the time to email you back!! Hugs, M

I love easy to use websites! I doubt our New York one is as easy as yours in Vermont! Love the background color here too. Merry Christmas! 🙂

i have to register my car for the first time at the Oakland DMV…I think i have to go inthere with the proper paperwork. I’m glad your experience with Vermont DMV was so great!!

🙂 great! I bet you did make his day!

December 6, 2007

I think it’s great that you made their day by thanking them for something they do that’s right! It’s too bad that so many people complain more often than they give praise or thanks! hugs, Weesprite

Oh, I’m so glad you let them know how good they were doing. There’s a thing you can do with kids called “Catch ’em Being Good) (they even have stickers that saw “caught being good” that you can give the kids). I love it! We’re all so quick to complain, but who doesn’t want to hear that they’re doing a good job! It’s nice when people notice. =)

That’s awesome that there is a website that actually functions well. I love it when they have pictures of things. I learn by seeing it, not by reading some dumb text. I’m glad you let them know.
