Doctor Visit Yesterday
I had an appointment with the doctor to get some help with my sleeping problems yesterday. My usual resident, Dr. Z. wasn’t available so I saw another resident. As I told Fred when I got home, I didn’t like her. She seemed not to care at all about me as a person but just as someone she could throw medication at. {And my reason for thinking this? I mentioned I was going to be eight and a half hours on a plane to Italy — a good reason to get the restless leg syndrome under control — and there was no comment or follow-up. In contrast, when I mentioned going to Italy to Dr. Z. when I met him the first time, he was full of questions and we had a lovely little chat!}
Anyway, the bottom line is that I have to up my nortriptylene from 20 mg to 50 mgs a night. So, I did that last night and even though I still woke at 2 am, there was not the constant irritation of the restless leg syndrome. I got up because I was wide awake and went back to bed about an hour and a half later. Tonight, if I wake up at 2 am, I will stay in bed and count my breaths to 50 before getting up. {This is something Fred suggested to me and when I can remember to do it, it has often worked.}
And why was I not prescribed sleeping pills? Well, I may have bolloxed myself up by requesting a generic . Or it might be that she really didn’t know was I waking because of the restless legs or just waking? *I* certainly didn’t know when she asked me. Well, I will give it a few days and then, as she suggested, call back and report.
Off to physical therapy when I sign off. I have to get prescriptions for myself to be refilled and I need to pick up some Insulin for Fred after the PT session. This will be easy because the PT place is right above the pharmacy!

some people probably would do better working with computers or robots than in close contact with other people… *sigh* >>>I hope you can have a restful night! Sorry for not noting for such long time, I’m in a period of OD laziness… (hoping it will be over soon) BTW: it seems we will be in Italy at the same time

Hopefully you’ll get a better doc next time. She just doesn’t seem to relate well with people.

Do they have a feedback form for these residents? Seems like you mentioned one time that they do. I like the “50 breaths” suggestion. I like to do a pulse count for one minute to see what my resting heart rate is. After about the third reading, I’m usually sleeping.

Surely she didn’t ignore that request because you asked for a generic sleeping pill. I know of at least one that is generic, Restoril. I don’t think that Ambien or Lunesta come in generic form yet. Hope you sleep through the night tonight! Hugs to you and Fred, M

I don’t like doctors who are cold and impersonal! They get paid well enough to be FRIENDLY and INTERESTED, in my opinion! hugs, Weesprite

Some doctors truly shouldn’t be doctors. They don’t have the skills to truly listen to their patients or they just don’t have the compassion and caring attitude that makes a good doctor. I hope you can sleep peacefully tonight. (((Hugs))) Pat
