Double You

This I got from DarlingNikki who told me to pick ten words that mean something to me and that begin with a W

  1. My last name begins with a W. This is my married name and when I got a divorce, I gave serious thought to going back to my maiden name. But from purely anecdotal evidence and from my observation as a seventh-grade teacher, it seemed to me that children who had different last names from their parents sometimes seemed to have more difficulties in school. And anyway, I thought my married name went better with my first name than it did with my original name…
  2. WATER–my beverage of choice. I grew up in a country and a time when carbonated drinks were not common so I actually don’t like drinks with bubbles.
  3. WALKING which is my exercise of choice. Not only do I lose weight when walk I regularly, I also stay out of the Pit of Depression.
  4. WHITE I was amazed and fascinated to learn that one technique with pastels has one putting on the darkest colors first and working up to the white which goes on last. I did a pastel painting of some pots and for the white one I started with purple and yellow!
  5. WATCH I got my first watch from my father when I proved to him I could tell the time. I was a bit shaky on some of it but I could tell the hours, the quarter afters and quarter to’s and the half hours. I was seven. I thought of this when I was going to teach the fourth grade–who are around 10 years old– Italian numbers and was told by their teacher that some of them couldn’t tell the time!
  6. WIDOW Do you know that a single sentence isolated from a paragraph and left at the bottom of a printed page is called a widow?
  7. WHITE Yes, I know I have used this before, but now I am talking about white hair. My hair is only just beginning to change and this annoys me. I like white hair and at the rate mine is going, I will need to live to 100 plus before it all changes!
  8. WORK I often wonder why people work at a job that makes them unhappy? I was fortunate in that despite the rough days, I never wanted to do anything else but teach.
  9. WORRIER I used to be a worrier and now I am not. So, what changed? Well, as time passed I began to see that all the worrying in the world did nothing except stress me out. So, I stopped. My life is much better now.
  10. WINTER I always like the beginning of winter here in Vermont. I like the first snow and wearing layers of clothing… I do not like the way winter goes on for so long, though…

QUOTATION: If you have the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed.

White hair? *shrug* I’m thinking you need to live past 100 then! The reason many children are not as “advanced” in their knowledge at school is because someone at home didn’t take the time to teach them. Both of my children knew colors, numbers, letters, time, and much more when they started kindergarten. They are bright kids anyway, but they wouldn’t have known these things unless we hadtaken the time to teach them. I would probably love Vermont, because I love snow.

I need to move to Vermont! I hate summer, this year more than ever, but thinking of it, I don’t like it either when winter draws on forever… I guess I’ll stick to Colorado.

I love hair that is pure white, like a halo, but most people’s hair just goes a mousy gray color. Love your W words.

Interesting. I drink a lot of water too. I like what you wrote. I need to start walking more. I have gained weight and gotten lazy. Take good care of you. Blessings. Time can be a difficult concept for some to learn. Believe it or not.

I was fascinated learning that about white, when you took your pastels class and wrote about it here, also! :o) !! And I’m glad you mentioned the bit about last names. When we first moved into civilian territory, it seemed like none of the kids’ friends had last names that matched their parents’! It seemed so odd to us at the time. And about white hair….well you WILL have to live to be 100 then. And if you do I hope to continue being able to hear about all your future adventures! hugs, Weesprite

I didn’t know number six. You learn something new every day! 😉

No, I didn’t know that about a widow. Interesting.

I do #6 when I write…I had no idea that’s what it was called. I learned something new today, thank you!

Interesting! I wonder what anybody would come up with if they were given a “Z”, “X”, or “Q”.
