I Did It!…Well, Almost!

I have almost finished with one load of laundry. This morning I made it down the stairs, across the basement floor and got the red mesh bag. Then I made it back up the stairs. The interesting thing here is when I was visualizing this, I was seeing myself carrying, not using, my cane. But the cane was actually a big help in coming up the stairs.

I stuffed the mesh bag full of dirty laundry and threw it down the stairs, walked down, dragged it across the floor and loaded the washing machine. Back up the stairs again. A few minutes ago, I went down stairs and put the clothes in the drier. So, the finish of this will be to go down and get the clothes out of the drier, stuff them into the mesh bag and bring them all upstairs again and then I will be through. Well, except for putting them away, of course. That won’t be particularly difficult since I can sit on the bed to sort and fold and take a break before putting them away.

The hardest part is the stairs. The instructions I brought home with me and the practice in hospital taught me to lead with the good foot going up and with the bad foot going down. I feel like a little kid just learning to use stairs because I cannot as yet use each foot in turn. I have to use one foot and bring the other one to the same level.

This will be all the laundry I will do today. Tomorrow I will do the whites which need a little bleach and then the day after, I will strip and change our bed and wash the two sets of flannel sheets. {We sleep with flannel sheets winter and summer as we like the cosiness of them even in summer.}

Oh, and I am counting this as part of my exercise today!

Yay…for you.. so so thankful it went well…what an accomplishment. I recall..”down with the bad”..”up with the good”..when I was walking with crutches after my surgery. Certainly that would be consided a work-out..wonderful!

Yay! It’s hard work doing laundry… great job getting it done! (huggles)

Since your current exercises include knee lifts (or is it leg lifts?), stairs certainly do count! And well done on figuring it out and following through. You know, I am constantly amazed by you. I know SOOOOO many people who, faced with your circumstances, would sit in the recliner and just take it easy, never pushing themselves. You’re truly an inspiration to us all on many levels.

Man, I guess they count! Stairs are tough when you hurt, or when you’re not up to par. Congrats on makin’ it. I think that deserves some sort of award!!!!!!! Love to you! ~M

you’re doing so good!!! won’t be long til you won’t have to think as you go up and down the stairs. and of course, it’s exercise!! it’s all exercise. take care,

Sounds as though you are coming along really well. Take care.

I would count it as extra credit only. I think you could do some of the specific exercises to target the hip area. Of course I would always be a tough grader. How were you on grading. What goes around comes around!!! have fun…dan

It sounds like you’ve hit another milestone! I bought myself some really great sheets made of cotton, but it’s like t-shirt cotton. It is so soft and great to sleep on. Flannel sometimes makes me too hot even in the winter, but this material is just right!

Woohoo!!!! That’s awesome!! I remember E having a hard time with the steps too. For awhile he had to stop and think what foot to put first. I bet you’re ” plumb tuckered out ” as they would say down here. You deserve some chocolate for that! Hugs, M

Fantastic job!!! I remember from my knee surgery how hard it was to learn how to do stairs again.

Another milestone and clean laundry. A win-win situation.

🙂

Stairs must be very difficult after your operation….but you did it! I prefer flannel sheets as well because they’re warm and don’t slip.

You are inspiring.
