I have to say that oxycodone is a groovy drug! I took a 5 mg about 15 minutes ago and I can feel the minor-but-stressful pain just oozing away! I am off the heavy-duty extended release version of this and have been for about 8 days although I still have a couple of them left. The 5 mg are for what they call break-through pain and I have been down to one a day, in the evening, for about a week.
Today I have read a lot, walked around inside the house at regular intervals, sat outside on the deck and read some more, AND gone for short walks outside {with walker} twice today. I am in the odd condition of wanting to move on from the walker to a stick but my left leg is not yet strong enough that I feel safe doing this. I will talk to Jen the physical therapist when she comes tomorrow about what I can do to strengthen this leg. {I am still doing the assigned twice a day exercises in addition to trying to walk for a little twice a day. I don’t always make the twice a day walks because walking with a walker is physically tiring.}
These days I am able to get myself to the bathroom and to fix my own breakfast and lunch. Fred fixes the evening meal {which he has always done} and brings it to me which is very welcome because I am really wiped out by the end of the day. Tonight was a fantastic bacon and cheese panini {well, actually, two of them} on a crusty seedy bread with potato salad. The potato salad is basically from Costco with additional onion and celery and probably something else. Fred is excellent at adding a bit of this and a bit of that! I almost forgot to say that although I put on the coffee when I get up, Fred brings a cup to me when he gets up because I can’t use a walker and carry coffee at the same time. However, am really looking forward to the time when I can bring him his coffee in the morning when he gets up. it is a little ritual I enjoy doing for him!
A new episode of "Eureka" is on the SF channel tonight. I actually hadn’t got into this show until I was in hospital and there was a "Eureka" marathon and I got interested…

My husband loves Eureka. I never have watched it other than little snippets now and again. I am glad that your pain is getting better. Hopefully, this time next month all of this will be a distant memory!

Sounds like you’re coming right along … don’t over do it.

A Eureka marathon? In the hospital? Dang! And I’m really glad that you’re doing so well. It was a major surgery and after only 3 weeks you’ve come so far!

Thank God for pain relievers. Good for you, P!

Oh, I love Eureka! It’s one of the few things I watch on the Sci Fi Channel. So glad to hear you’re doing so well! You’ll be using a cane before you know it!

Sometimes i wish i still had a few of the pain pills (i had at least one Rx of all the major ones) remaining from the head and neck injury i suffered when mowed into while walking across the street one fine spring day in 1999….but THEN, i realize, NO, if all i have to contend with is a few aches and pains here and there, i’ll take an Advil and be done with it. Glad you’re coming along so well so soon!!!

sounds like you’re making good progress if you’ve moved up from “get rid of this pain” to “make this leg stronger.” Maybe you’re ready for some additional exercise. You’re doing very well!

Any mention of Fred’s cooking makes me hungry! :o) !! And thank goodness for pain meds….Joe is taking vicodin for his tooth extraction pain and feels soooo much better! It won’t be long before you are walking without the walker AND bringing Fred his coffee. You are doing great! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

I never heard of Eureka, but that’s probably because I am down to basic TV (cabel)which has just about nothing on it. I think you are doing fine & that the leg will grow stronger. It’s hard to be patient in recovery. Love, Anna
