Sleeping in a Chair

Last night, I slept in the recliner. I didn’t mean to. When I couldn’t settle to sleep, I got up, got some Oreo chocolate cookies and my book and settled down in the chair until I felt sleepy. Next thing I knew, it was 5:45 a.m. and there I was with the light still on, my book on my chest and my reading glasses askew!

My son and his girlfriend are coming around 1 pm. Unfortunately, they can’t stay long. If I had known Fred would be up early this morning, I would have told them to come earlier but one doesn’t know these things in advance.

I have just had two soft-boiled eggs, Marmite "soldiers" and a big cup of coffee. Next on the to-do list is get dressed and head out for a little walk. Oh, this morning an interesting thing happened. I used the walker to get myself into the kitchen, parked it while I moved around the kitchen holding on to the center table and the stove, made coffee as I usually and then started back to the reclining chair. I had made about three steps when I suddenly realized these steps were without the walker! I am not ready to do this yet {too much pressure on the operated leg and it hurts} but it was interesting that I did it without thinking!

If you did it without thinking, you MUST be getting well! That’s just great!

Well, I hope it turns out to be a GOOD thing 🙂 I just hate falling asleep where I’m not supposed to, I don’t sleep well, but I know people who do it almost every evening.

Wow, your healing seems to be running apace!

Applause for your first three steps even if accidental. Don’t rush it.

I hope you have a wonderful visit with your son and his girlfriend!

I have fallen asleep on the recliner more times than I care to admit. It’s a running joke with my children when we watch movies at home. “Are you asleep yet, Mom?” is a recurring theme. It sounds like you are improving by leaps and bounds. Enjoy your visit today!

Eggs and soldiers. Yum. But what’s marmite?

Well you must’ve really been sleeping soundly, if you slept in your recliner that long….so that’s a good thing! :o) !! I hope you have a lovely visit with your son and his girlfriend! hugs, Weesprite

Oh oh..do be careful….lol..that would be my first reaction..but then..so pleased you did not fall. Forgive me..I tend to be overly anxious these days! I expect you are a bit excited about your company arriving…do enjoy…but slow down..(smiles)!

Oh you’re doing great! The most difficult thing dealing with my dad post-hip replacement surgery and then post knee-replacement surgery (within a few months of each other) has been making him use his walker and be careful. He’s always been stubborn, never been sick… and his increasing Alzheimer’s isn’t helping the situation but so far he’s doing ok. I’m glad you are doing more than ok!

We have two recliners which hubby and I use when we can’t sleep. Sounds like you’re doing well.

Your recovery seems to be going well.

I’ve never thought of putting marmite with egg. I’ll have to try that.

heheh yes – and before you know it, you’ll be off, racing around. Does Fred like marmite? Do Americans like marmite? can you buy marmite in America? All very important questions – one needs to know what one needs to import. I imagine that all the exercise you did yesterday left you shattered. Hope you didn’t get aches from the recliner.

That sounds like a yummy breakfast. I think I’ll have some marmite today. My husband doesn’t like it so it’s more for me 🙂 You’re going to be running soon at your rate of healing 🙂

By the time you read this your son and his girlfriend will have come and gone. I hope you both enjoyed your visits and you’re feeling rested today.

Hope you had a nice visit with your son and his girlfriend! Mmm, I LOVE soft boiled eggs. Not sure about the Marmite though as I’ve never had it. You’ll be up and walking without the walker before you know it!! Hugs, M

When my brother first got sick and had to start using a walker, there were moments when he’d find himself about to take off without it. Funny how your mind lets you do what you’ve always done, isn’t it? But if it hurts, it’s not a good thing, so use the walker, will ya? Can’t wait to hear about your visit!

go slow! *huggs*

RYpN: Thank you for sharing that with me. I had a feeling you’d survived something of your own. Women with your strength and love for life don’t get that way by accident or from living an easy life.

Sleeping in a chair was my preferred method of sleeping after both my shoulder surgeries, took pressure off the muscles. Yeah for walking a few steps when you dont realize you were missing the walker! Always a sign toward recovery!! 🙂

I remember when Fred did the same thing after his surgery (started waking without his walker).

July 11, 2007

You’ll soon be without the walker completely!
