Survey
Well, I WAS going to try the deck today but what I actually did was to sleep two hours this afternoon instead. But I must have needed it because as I told Fred, I went to sleep with pain but woke up pain free! I did get a good sponge bath with Fred washing my back. And I washed my hair which always makes me feel better.
I think this survey come originally from Weesprite:
1. Do you have a bad temper? How has this changed (if at all) over the years? What are some things that rile you up?
I used to get very irritable about once a month but since menopause, I no longer have to deal with hormone surges. What riles me up is being treated with disrespect and/or not being listened to.
2. If you’re not a bad-tempered person, or even if you are, how do other people’s shows of anger make you feel? What is your usual reaction?
I tend to walk away. In the past this was because I grew up in a home where my parents shouted a lot and I very quickly learned to hide. These days it is largely because I don’t want to spend my valuable time with such nonsense…
3. Are you scared of many things? How has this changed over the years? Are there any things you weren’t scared of as a younger person, that you are scared of now?
I used to be scared of everything. I grew up thinking that I couldn’t cope, that everyone else in the world knew some secret that I didn’t. Eventually, with professional help, I got over this. The one thing that changed my life for the better was getting a divorce. I HAD to learn to cope because I was a single parent and one thing that came out of that is that I found that if I really HAD to do something, then I found a way to do it.
4. Are you a worrier? How has this changed over the years? What are the main things you worry about?
I used to be a huge worrier. What really helped me, odd though it sounds, was learning to say, "What is the worst thing that can happen and if it does, what can I do about it?" The answer is NEVER "nothing" {well, except for death when it ceases to be my problem anyway}. Having a flexible plan for what may happen helps me a lot and I have largely stopped worrying.
5. What are the main things you think you need to have, in order to feel "secure" in life?
In order to feel secure, I need enough money to meet the basic necessities of food and shelter. I have this now AND a little left over to frivol away on non-necessities like strawberries and cream! {Fred just bought me a dish of strawberries and cream }
6. How do you feel when you make a mistake? Does it make a difference, whether or not someone else saw it happen?
I used to think I could never EVER make a mistake. If I did, my father wouldn’t love me. {Of course, from an adult perspective, I can see how untrue that was but as a child, I truely believed it. } So, since I could not make mistakes, when it appeared that I might make a mistake and be less than perfect, I "lost interest" and stopped doing whatever it was. These days, I take mistakes as part of learning. If I make it is public I apologise and move on. Idon’t remember where I got this from but I used to sum it up to my seventh-graders by telling them that when I looked in the mirror this morning, I didn’t see God. And only God is perfect; the rest of us make mistakes.
7. Are you harsher on yourself or on others?
I think I just answered this in #6.
8. Are you an irritable person? What things irritate you?
I would say that basically I am not irritable. Having said that, I know I get a bit irritated by having to say the same thing over and over…
9. Has anyone ever said or implied that you can be an irritating person?
No.
10. Are you a very private person? What are some things you demand privacy for?
I am a very private person. When I was in a Catholic boarding school, our mail was opened and read before we got it. One result of this is that I am very bothered by people reading my mail or going to my purse. When my kids needed something from my purse, they brought the purse to me and I gave the whatever-it-was to them!
11. Do you get embarrassed easily? Are you more likely to get embarrassed by something you do, or something someone else does? Give an example of something that embarrasses you.
I am seldom embarrassed by anything I do these days but I do get embarrassed for others who may not realize the impact of what they may be doing or saying.
12. Do you suffer from sleep problems of any kind?
I sometimes go through insomniac periods but these days I don’t have to get up and go to work so if I am tired the next day, I can nap! I am not sleeping all that well at night since this surgery 16 days ago, but that will improve when the incision completely heals.
13. Do you often suffer indigestion or constipation or any o’that stuff?
Not indigestion, but pelvic radiation messed up my bowels for a while. And, of course, a total shutdown in bowel function sent me back to hospital threedays after I was sent home after this hip replacement. But slowly but surely, things are getting back to normal.
14. Do you have more than your fair share of aches and pains?
No, I am a very healthy person when I am not having cancer or a hip replacement!
15. What’s the thing you like most about your body? What’s the thing you like least?
I like being tall. I have excellent posture and my legs are strong. My skin is excellent. I am seldom sick because I have a good immune system. My hair is thick and shiny and has enough natural curl to make it easy to keep in order with little effort. I am not thrilled by the ravages of age but there isn’t much I can do about that.
16. What’s the thing you like best about your-whole-self? What’s the thing you like least?
I am in as far as possible, self sufficient. I like my own company. The other side of this is that I am aware I could very easily withdraw from the world completely…
17. When’s the last time you lied?
I can’t remember the last intentional lie. It’s been a long time.
18. When’s the last time you had sex? When’s the last time you wanted to have sex, but didn’t?
I prefer not to answer this question.
19. When’s the last time you hurt yourself really badly… can we assume this was an accident, or are you one who hurts yourself on purpose at times?
I can’t actually remember a time when I hurt myself badly.
20. What’s the last thing you felt guilty about? Do you feel guilty often?
I don’t do guilt.
21. Do you ever try to make someone else feel guilty? Does it work?
I used to be very good at manipulating through guilt. Then, one day, it was pointed out to me that I was doing this and I was horrified. My mother used to do this, and, of course, this is where I learned it. I immediately enlisted the help of my younger son and made a real effort to stop doing it. As a result of this, he is excellent at spotting this and pretty well immune to being manipulated in this way which has to be a Good Thing!
22. When’s the last time you cried? Were you alone or with someone?
I cry easily and these days I consisder this to be an asset. I have had two major meltdowns in the two weeks since the surgery and I did a lot of crying then. But these were mostly caused by pain and frustration.
23. What is the most environmentally-unfriendly thing you have done recently, if anything? What is the most environmentally-friendly thing you do, regularly?
Unfriendly: I use a lot of tissues, and paper towels.
Friendly: I recycle cardboard, bottles, soda cans, and paper.
24. When’s the last time someone did something really nice or helpful for you without you even asking?
I have a friend who drives me home from book club meetings. Oh, and Amanda bringing me books from the library.
25. When’s the last time you did something really nice or helpful for someone else without them even asking?
I understand “pay it forward” and random acts of kindness, and I enjoy doing them.
QUOTATION: If you have the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed.

I love your entries here. I had no idea that you went to Catholic school! I remember the year I spent in one, and it was quite horrid. I know what you mean about pain making you irritable, and it’s something I wish I knew how to fix.

I am glad you did this survey! I surely hope that when menopause finally comes to me, my irritability will be less! At least it is less than it once was! :o) !! Here’s wishing you a lovely day. hugs, Weesprite

That was quite revealing. I don’t think I’m ready to do this one yet but I’ll take it anyway.
