Progress

Small steps:

  • I got myself some toast and Marmite and a banana early this morning. If I hold on to the center aisle and the stove top, I can get myself over to the bread and the toaster without the walker.
  • TMI coming up! I got myself cleaned up and underpants changed this morning after a very soft BM. This is progress because this is what sent me into a melt-down yesterday morning.

Yesterday it seemed like Grand Central Station here. The visiting nurse came and took blood, the physical therapist came and took me through the exercises and Amanda came from the library, picked up my books and brought me more. This isn’t an official policy of the library; it is something she does of her own volition for shut-in people. As soon as I am able to get myself to the library and am no longer a shut-in, I intend to write an email to the city manager giving her all sorts of praise for this. I appreciate it SO much.

The exercises really made me tired. Not the lying-in-bed ones but the standing up ones. I am supposed to eventually work my way up to ten times; right now, I can do four or five of the standing ones. But, as Jen {physical therapist} said, "Four or five is better than none!"

Ok, on with the day…

QUOTATION: If you have the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed.

— David Viscott

To-Do List:

  • one set of lying-down exercises to do and two sets of standing-up exercises. {I am supposed to do two sets a day}
  • get up and go for a short walk every hour.
  • give myself a stand-at-the-sink sponge bath. {Fred has already been drafted for my back,}
  • snap my fingers imperiously and issue orders to Fred—well, no, not really but it was fun to say!
  • watch reruns of Judging Amy! {If you can’t watch reruns on daytime TV when recovering from surgery, when can you?}
  • relax as much as possible.

I love Judging Amy! Tyne Daly is such a great character on the show, as well as the other actors. I laughed at the comment about Fred! It’s good to be waited on hand and foot every now and then! And you certainly deserve it after surgery. Good luck on your therapy!

I’m glad for the progress you have made! Keep up the good work!

June 29, 2007

gee, I snap my fingers and order Joe about imperiously often, but he pays me little attention…..maybe that’s because he knows I’m not recovering from surgery?? :oO !! It’s wonderful that someone from the library comes to get your books and bring you new ones! hugs, Weesprite

Here’s to a speedy recovery.

glad you are doing so good. you’ll be up and around in practically no time. i think a letter of appreciation is a nice thing to do for amanda. and i can just see fred jumping up to your snapping fingers!!!!!! he was so worried about you when you hyad to go back to the hospital. take care,

June 29, 2007

reruns it is!

June 29, 2007

LOL! You should get a little bell to tinkle for Fred. No, wait… one of those AIR HORNS! Bwa-hahaha! Of course, you KNOW that I am vastly interested in what your exercises are! And those “short walks” are so important. I wonder if Beth would make a house call in a week or two…

June 29, 2007

Slow but certain! That’s great that the library is able to get you materials.

Y’know, soaps aren’t realistic at all, are they? Blanche didn’t have any such problems when she got her Polish hip! (If you don’t still watch Coronation Street, you’ll have no idea what I mean!) Glad you’re getting on a bit better. Remember it will take some time.

June 29, 2007

Hey, can you clone Fred? Just kidding. Am glad things are getting better. 🙂

Get a feather and when Fred does come over to bring you stuff tickle him under the chin. He won’t know what it is for but just tell him the therapist said that you were suppose to do that. We men don’t question orders so I doubt that he will. See how long he will let you do it and let us know, please! have fun…dan

I’m glad you’re able to do these things. To think, a little over a week ago you had this surgery. Incredible! Keep going!

I miss “Judging Amy”. It was one of my fav’s especially since she’s a CT girl! Glad you’re doing well. It will get better day to day now! Love to you! ~M

I’m sorry all libraries can’t do that. Ours can. It sounds as if you’re making good physical progress. Thinking of Tyne Daly makes me think of Sharon Gless, and how much she has changed since Cagney and Lacey days. I hope you are feeling well. By the way, did you say where you were going in Italy? Are you driving? It was harder than in France but do-able.

RYpN: I’m not even sure what to say to that. This is like having one of my life mentors make that request. I am honored and completely humbled. I would be happy to test my newly learned skills in whatever capacity you need when the time comes. Again, I am totally blown away!

You’re getting there sweety! (huggles)

It sounds like you’re doing so well. All that “BUSY-ness” surely will make the healing time go by faster too.

{{{{Hugs}}}}},

I loved that show when it was on! Sounds to me like you are making progress!! That’s great! If you’re the type of patient I am though it can’t be soon enough. I have never been a very patient patient. LOL Hugs, M

ryn: I understand, I’m certainly in no hurry, just curious and your energey level certainly comes first! I’m happy you sound so much better. 🙂

Sounds like you are doing great, Patrisha! Keep it up, you’ll be back in form soon. Hey, I can’t write an entry this morning, except for the title. When I try to write on The Circle, I get the write screen plus the first page of O.D. I hope the DiaryMaster fixes it. I wrote him. If you want, try an entry & see if it works for you. I would greatly appreciate it. Love, Anna

I am glad you are progressing and *huggs* you kind of scared us there for a minute!

Just read both of your entries. Giggling lots at the ‘snap my fingers and issue orders’ comment. I’m so glad you are making progress. It is the little things, the personal hygiene things that mean so much and make us feel so shabby when we are sick.

That is great of that librarian! It would be like Grand Central Station with all those people going in and out. Oh, Judging Amy use to be my favourite show. They don’t show reruns here.
