Morning

I haven’t actually checked the Weather Channel, but when I stuck my nose out this morning, it looks and feels like the kind of day I like with lots of sunshine but a chilly little breeze. I have now checked on line and it says 52 degrees with sunshine and wind from the South. Hmmm, it felt warmer than that when I went out on the balcony this morning. That is only two degrees above the wear-gloves temperature according to Fred’s rules of how to dress for the Vermont weather!
Yesterday I did laundry and read. I have just discovered a mystery writer named Jackson Parker. His books so far are excellent. I will be sad when I have finished all the library has.

Today I have a couple of things I really need to get done. I still haven’t gotten to the medical supply store to get the raised toilet seat and the crutches. I have been rereading the packet of instructions again and there are all sorts of things I am not supposed to do that I do regularly such as tuck my legs back under a seat,  {short pause to correct this!} and cross my legs. One of the things I have decided to do is to get the physical therapist show me on the right leg what I am not to do with the left leg! I do much better with being shown rather than just reading. In fact, when I am following written instructions, I actually have to walk my way through them… I also want to know how long I am NOT to do things like crossing my legs! Twelve more days! I am ready to get this surgery over and done will and start on recovery. I feel as if I am in limbo waiting and waiting and waiting

Another thing I want to do today is to drive down to the library and get more books so I can continue my strenuous regime of sitting propped up on the bed and reading!

To-Do List:

  • library
  • go to medical supply store
  • walk. I am being pretty consistent about this
  • work on Italian a little. I am not being consistent about this.
  • maybe pop up to the grocery store and get bleach. At the moment, I am sharing one bottle between the laundry in the basement and the bathroom.
  • Also on the list of things that are not always on the list but when you need them, there are no substitutes is coffee-pot filters!

Just saw you on the front page! I think that crossing your legs is bad for the circulation, and you’re just not supposed to do it, but I think everybody does, because it feels comfortable!

RYN: You can mail your handwriting sample to me at: L Hercun, 601 Second Street West, Fort Frances, Ontario Canada P9A 2Z6

When I’ve run out of coffee filters I’ve used a partial sheet of sturdy paper towel. It is a bit of bother trimming it, though. The last time they were on sale I stocked up so I wouldn’t run out again. I’ve never heard of Jackson Parker so I’ve written his name down and will look him up. Thanks! You know, toilet seats have gotten too low for me now, never mind after an operation. When theknees get weak it is so hard to get up. Crossing the legs isn’t good at any time. Once you break the habit maybe it can stay broken. 🙂

Crossing the legs feels good because it elevates one knee and takes the pressure off the lumbar spine. If you have something to rest your feet on, just a small stool about 6-8 inches high even, this will give your spine the desired rest and you won’t be as tempted to cross your legs. They probably don’t want you to do a lot of medial and lateral rotation till the muscles attach properly and heal up a bit. Have you discussed massage options with Beth and your doctor? I’m just learning about acutherapy, which is a light touch that could help with the healing that she could do on that leg and then do a regular-to-light massage on the rest of you. It will be difficult for you to get to her office, though. But I really would hate to see you go without massage when it could benefit you the most! Does she make out calls?

For different reasons I have the same “strenuous regime” every day. Let us know which books you get and what you recommend. Take care.

I haven’t heard of that author, I’ll need to check him out. I had my legs tucked under my chair when I read your entry! The crossing the legs is due to the tendon being cut to replace your joint and it’s to keep the joint from popping out until that is healed completely. It happens rarely, but it does happen occasionally. My MIL wanted to cross her legs all the time! It drove us batty. She has Alzheimers and never could remember, so we’d have to watch her like a hawk. You’ll do much better.

I could go for a day or two of your lovely weather! It’s supposed to be 96 gere today and then add a heat index on top of that. UGH! I bet you remember those days from living in Mississippi. Wow, only 12 more days. It’s going by fast! BTW, would you mind giving me your address? I think yours is one of the few I don’t have on my Christmas card list. You can private note me with it.

That is if you don;t mind me having it. We will definately have to meet in the spring when you visit your sons. Enjoy your beautiful day! Hugs, M

fantastic plan. I love that you are so organised.

just looked up jackson parker on the library’s website. nope, they’ve never heard of him. i’m sure your surgery will be just fine but that is a good idea to get someone to show you on your right leg what you can’t do with your left. take care,

I am not supposed to tuck them under and cross them either, promotes blood clots. But how long can one sit at a 90 degree angle?? I know I can’t, then my butt goes numb!

I’m glad you guys are talking about blood flow in the legs, I’ve got some wicked varicose veins that are painful from time to time. Is it okay to cross them at the ankle? –There really is no substitute for coffee. I had to give it up, at least for a while, and it’s killing me. What a wonderful ritual my morning coffee was.
