Flying Rats and Other Things

I HATE the seagulls {lakegulls?} that fly up from Lake Champlain to poop on my new car! Fred’s car is parked right behind mine but no, it is always MINE they choose to poop on. This is not just one time, people. This is day after day after day! They are beautiful to watch as they fly and I used to defend them when people called them "flying rats" but this is the last straw. I cleaned it off yesterday and I expect it will be right there again this morning! Fortunately, I park right by the hose so it isn’t a big job to wash the damned stuff off!
One of the book club members left me a message on the machine to say that the next meeting had been changed to June 19th. Ummm, well, no, I can’t come because I am having surgery on that day! For some reason. that, plus the fact that I will be giving blood to stockpile next Tuesday plus the fact that I have already made the appointment for the presurgery check-up for June 4th seems to have got it into my head that this is really happening. This is not something I am just talking about any more.

I am getting cold feet about it a bit. I found myself contemplating canceling it since my hip is hurting very little now. But there is next-to no pain because I am doing nothing. Do I want to spend the rest of my life getting into my car to go to the library, or the drug store or the post office—all places where I used to walk to routinely? No, I don’t! I want to be able to walk a couple of miles without pain again. And, especially, I want to be able to walk around Lucca in September. So, on with the surgery.

It’s normal to feel a little anxiety about the surgery, but you will be so glad that you did it after recuperating! Especially once you are in Italy, roaming the streets and looking at all the sights!

This will be a GREAT thing for you!! 🙂

I’m glad you are going ahead with the surgery. It WILL be a great thing for you!! :o) !! About the seagulls…. I wouldn’t care if they pooped on my car, so if you wanna trade, I will trade you my ants for your seagulls!! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

it’s perfectly normal to be nervous about surgery. i’m sure you will be very glad that you went thru with it. i’d hate not to be able to walk with merlyn. are you expecting rain later today and tomorrow? take care,

Pigeons, seagulls, swans – they are all big time poopers and a huge annoyance if you have them in your area. Pigeons always used to annoint my dad’s hat when he got a new one and wore it downtown. Remember the days when men and women always wore hats to go downtown? Well, you are a brave woman, Patricia.

I always wonder how those birds have such good aim! The good thing about the surgery is that you will be asleep and not feel a thing. The hard part will be the recovery, but with your tenacity and determination, I’m sure you’ll knock it out of the park!

Your feelings about your upcoming surgery are perfectly normal. Just remember what the benefits will be!!!! Yeah, I remember those nasty birds! Here we are overloaded with these ” giant ” blackbirds. They are everywhere and like the seagulls always seem to take aim at our vehicle. What is it with birds and cars? LOL RYN: You are so right! SHe is DEFINATELY a control freak!! Hugs, M

What color is your car? I think the birds in my area have a thing for dark colored cars. Mine is a very deep blue (Indigo?) The MIL & Wife-Unit’s car is tan. Guess which car gets the most even though they are parked side by side. Except when the mulberry tree is loaded with berrys. Then everything gets it. My definition of a seagull = Ten pounds of poop wrapped in five pounds of feathers. 🙂 – – – –

I’d feel funny about surgery, so hopefully that is a nature thing.

I understand this all too well. Surgery for me is still well down the road, so it’s easy to think about. But I’ve no doubt that once it looms large, I’ll feel much the same way. Everyone I’ve talked to who’s done it, is well satisfied with the results. Hang in there. I’ll be here cheering you on! Love you! ~M

I quite like gulls. 🙂 It’s pigeons that crap the most around here… lol

gosh I think its normal to have cold feet, but when its over and healed, you will have so many more benefits. And I know you are tougher than that anyway … you won’t cancel. You know they say bird poop is good luck?

I say concentrate on how good you will feel once it is overwith and you recuperate. No more pain! Gee, could I borrow you for a week or so? I sure could use a sorter and a no-nonsense-throwaway-type of person to help me at my house. I am a clinger and a hoarder, and it shows! FreeCycle would be SO happy with the results!

Reminds me of an old video game that Fred had on his old, old machine (pre -PC maybe?) It was called “Potty Pigeon”. Rudimentary graphics and simple commands. The objective was to poop on the cars as they drove past. Justin still talks about it.

Yes, on with the surgery! It is natural to feel anxious. You will do fine!

This surgery is really going to improve your life, and you are going to be feeling so much better afterwards. You hang in there! And yeah, I agree with you about the flying rats. We get them here too.
