Blood Letting and Stick Shifts
I just got a phone call from the person who is going to take my to-be-stored blood for the surgery. For some reason, I had it in my head that I had to go to the Red Cross because in my head Red Cross = giving blood! But I found out this morning that I have to go to the hospital. Now that is a place I HATE to go because so far I have had to pay what I consider an inordinate sum of money for parking and I have had to walk MILES all over the hospital to get to where I needed to go. In fact it was so far the last time I was there for the MRI on the hip, I asked for a wheel chair.
But the good news is that Shelly, the woman I talked to this morning, said that her desk is right in front of where I get off the elevator. AND, even better, she will give me a voucher to pay for parking! I wonder if every department in the hospital will do this and all one has to do is to ask for it? Hmmm, they don’t publicise this. And you can believe I will be asking in the future! This blood letting takes place at 11 am next Tuesday. And I asked her if it was necessary to go twice and she said that most people who store their blood only store one bag and then don’t use it, and so I have decided that I will only store one pint. {Or whatever metric measure they are stored in.}
This morning I want to go to the library and after that, maybe out for a little retail therapy. I don’t know whether to wait until Fred gets up and ask him to move his car out from behind mine or to just get his keys and do it. Until the other day, I had never driven Fred’s car and then, for some reason I cannot now remember, he asked me to move it out on the street for him. Now I know I can do it, and I don’t have to wait around for him to do it! I don’t really know now why I was so apprehensive. It is a MUCH bigger car than mine but it is an automatic shift. and although I didn’t park it as close to the curb as Fred would have done, I did get it parked.
Having mentioned automatic shifts, I am still delighted how much easier it is to drive a car with an automatic shift. {I wrote "shirt" the first time; now, there’s a strange mental image! } I have driven stick shifts for years and had no problems when I was in Mississippi. But here in Vermont, we have hills, and lots of them, and it seems to be the rulle that stop lights are always at the top of a steep hill! And, although I have never done this, being parked at the top of every hill waiting for the light to change has always worried me that with a stick shirt I would slide backwards into the car behind me!
Right, on with the day…

Technology being what it is, someday there probably will be an automatic shirt! 🙂

good luck with the operation! its so funny that you call it blood letting 🙂 and the hospital should voucher your parking everytime if you are the patient…its the visitors they stick it to!

Hospitals should have free parking!! *stamps foot adamantly!!* When we had a stick shirt car, I used to worry about sliding backwards into the people behind me also. I still felt “cool,” using the stick shirt! (Currently my Hyundai wears a “shirt” with a dent in one side, but that’s not because I slid into anyone!) :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

It is a common thing to get your parking paid for when you have an appointment. When you sign in you hand your ticket over and they stamp it. But when Gunther was in the hospital I paid out quit a bit in parking. They did have a free lot but it was quite a distance to walk. I did it, though. Retail therapy, what a good idea! 🙂

Only a matter of time before there are automatic shirts–be interesting to see what they do. 🙂

that’s my fear of a stick shift! i’m so glad for automatics. i would love to go out and spend some money but i just bought gas!!!! take care,

An automatic shirt has to be a good idea – automatic clothes in general. Much easier to get dressed in the morning…

lol! You still typed “shirt” at the end. 🙂 I’m wondering what the difference is in drawing out a pine of your blood to store and just donating. Won’t the blood drawing affect you the same way the donating does? I hope you’ll be okay!

I wish that I’d thought of that before my hysterectomy. I lost 5 pints of blood during surgery and I have worried ever since about whose blood was transfused into me. I am excited for you and your upcoming “new” hip and your trip to Italy! It’s going to be a wonderful summer for you!

It is a bit tricky with a manual shift at a hilly stop light. It’s been 9 years since I have driven one (regularly)

I’ve only passed my test a few weeks, and that is what I always worry about. There seem to be a lot of hills in Yeovil and there always seem to be a round-about at the top! Clutch control!

hehe, you wrote stick shirt again in your last paragraph. Funny. And I think I’d donate 2 pints. Not sure why, but I like my own blood.

I have almost always had a stick shift, save the last two cars I purchased. *huggs* good luck with the blood letting…..

ROFL (even your noters are very funny today)!

Oh my, the 1st time I drove a stick shift that is exactly what happened. Well, I didn’t roll into the car behind us but I had to stop at the top of a hill and I couldn’t get started again. E ahd to scoot over next to me and drive from that position. The guy in the car behind us was laughing his head off. 😛 L I haven’t driven a stick shift since!! Those tickers are getting closer to being done!

Glad you’re donating blood “just in case”. I worried about that this time with Dad. No advance notice means no donating before hand… I always wanted to drive a “standard” but my folks figured I had enough to worry about with the not so good vision, and insisted I drive an “automatic”. I know HOW to shift, but have never really done it.

Ha! You said stick shirt again.
