Patricia Who? & Other Stuff.
So, finally, after having this new car for, hmmm, how long? I got the registration certificate! What happened was this. My Social Security card says I am Patricia F. {Lastname} The F. is my name before marriage. The Department of Motor Vehicles also has me as Patricia F. since I used my SS card for identification. BUT, I sign my name as Patricia M {for Margaret}. So, because of this, the person at the dealership who was doing all this paperwork {and at this point, I have to say how THRILLED I am that *I* don’t have to do it} called me all perturbed because someone at the DMV in Montpelier was asking questions about me because I had signed the paperwok as Patricia M. I explained what the problem was and she said in a very doubtful voice that she would try to get it sorted out but that the DMV were being very picky about things like this "these days." I guess she must have convinced someone out there that it was highly unlikely that an English-accented septagenarian would be a terrorist trying to get legal documentation because the registration certificate arrived yesterday! So, finally, my cute Kia Rio belongs to me {and the bank }
With the visit to the doctor and the huge packet of instructions and documents I have begun to wade through, this upcoming surgery really seems real, now. I want to thank you for all the positive note you left me, too. When I wrote that I was bothered by the doctor calling me Pat, one reader comments on the fact that she was bothered by doctors calling her by her first name anyway. Well, I used to feel like that and occasionally I still do if the doctor is young enough to be my son, but I eventually decided as part of my "choose your battles" philosopy I have now that this wasn’t something I felt worth commenting on. But I do always correct people who call me Pat. My name is Patricia, and if that is what it says on the paperwork, that is what I want to be called. If I wanted to be called Pat, I would say so! My younger son is Jake. He is NOT, as so many Jakes are — really a Jacob. I wonder if he is ever asked if he is Jacob?
Well, I really don’t have many plans for today. There is a lot of stuff I could be doing like housework and continuation of the Great Paper Disposal project, but what I think I am going to do today is read. I went to the library before I went to the doctor yesterday and I have three new books to read…
Off to get coffee… Oh, and note — new quote this morning.
QUOTATION: If you have the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed.

I like that quote! It must be true, cuz oftentimes beginning is the hardest part of all! I don’t like being called by my first name by doctors (unless they ask, in which case it’s FINE…I just want to be asked!) but it’s not something I’d raise a stink about either. I can see your point about not wanting to be called a nickname, when you NEVER go by that nickname. It’s a wonder people haven’t tried calling you Patty!! :oO !! hugs, Weesprite

My name is Susan. And oh how I loathe being called “Sue”. I actually chuckled when I read that because I am the same way!

There are one or two people who call me by a shortened version of my name, which is not a name that can normally be shortened. With one person, I swear she’s got a few cells missing in her head because no matter how many times I correct her, she just doesn’t remember. I finally just gave up. I love your new quote. You’ve got a knack for picking good ones!

LOL – My name can be shortened, and some people do that – but only a select few get away with shortening the SHORTENED version – and those are my Sister, and one friend. 😉 {{{HUGS}}},

It’s so funny because when people call me Patricia, I tell them that I prefer to be called Pat!!! In first grade, I had to write my “real” first name “Patricia” and I wanted to write what everyone called me, so I wrote on every paper “Pat Patricia”! You see which one I considered more important!

I LOVE this quote. That’s the good thing about my name, it really can’t be shortened. LOL RYN: Yeah, the carbs! E has been a diabetic for 38 years so I have learned a lot about it in our 22 years of marriage. The carbs definately present a problem though as most of what I can eat without aggravating my crohns is carbs. Potatoes, rice, noodles, breads. Uh huh, so now I have to figure out how to

eat without it aggravating either one of these. Should be interesting. Glad you finally got the registration cert.! hugs, M

Ah yes, the DMV is very picky now that all those records have gone online from coast to coast. It’s not so much they think you are a terrorist, but also because of the massive cases of identity theft.

Anyone who calls me anything other than Frank (Frankie, Franklin, etc.) is immediately and semi-politely told that I only answer to Frank. No one I’ve ever corrected has ever made that mistake a second time. Your blingy-blob thing is distracting, in that it makes your entries bounce up and down sometimes. Best of luck on your surgery. frank

I love the quote. 🙂 You are doing well in inspiring me. I’m glad you have got the name thing sorted … a) for the car and b) for the doctor. I confess that it seems funny thinking of him addressing you by your first name – and presumptiously giving you a new name. I always try to ask my students what they want to be called. Samantha/Sam/Sammie … and then of course, I have to try to remember which isn’t easy. I also joined the freecycle group here at the weekend (or several days ago) and can’t believe how much good stuff is being given away.

ryn: lol. Yes. And the vet thinks he has about 20 more pounds, maybe 25 before he’s done “filling out” as he said. The first words out of his mouth were “he’s lanky, but don’t worry he’ll start filling out when he hits about 9-11 months”. And I went, “Oh fantastic!” *note sarcasm* 🙂 He’s massive.

I can’t wait to hear how you like the new hip! I have name trouble too, Nancy instead of Marcy…or people want to know what my “real” name is. They figure Marcella, or Marcellina…ick! I also have a last name that people manage to murder, so woe is me!!! Love to you! ~M

I think Patricia is nice name, but not Pat. Tricia is o.k. though!

North Americans have a terrible habit of shortening personal names. It’s automatic and something I’ve been in trouble over more than one.

My mum is like you. My name is Emma-Louise and she HATES people calling me Emma. She always says if she had wanted people calling me Emma, she would have called me Emma, not Emma-Louise!
