Thoughts on This & That
Last night I didn’t sleep well. I was woken with cramps in my legs and feet quite a few times. I am thinking this may be a combination of riding my bike and not taking my multivitamin for a few days. I have noticed this before when I stop taking the multivitamin. I don’t stop taking them because I am giving them up. It is because I am lazy! I have two–one for morning and one for evening– of those little pill boxes where I can put stuff I take for a week. For some weird reason, I really hate filling them up! I ALWAYS take my two prescription drugs even when the box is empty. I guess I could buy a monthly one which would mean I would only fill it once a month! Anyway, I did fill both the morning and evening one this morning. {The evening one has the prescription pills and the fish oil ones so that I only have fishy breath in my sleep!}
Today I definitely decided that in my next course, whatever it may be, I am auditing. This means I will not get credit for it but since I am not working on a degree, that doesn’t matter. I also decided that in the three class periods I have left, I am going to continue as if I am auditing and only do the homework I want to do. I am not going to fail {which would bother me} but as I wrote a few days ago, I don’t need grades to be sure my father loves me any more. He has been dead over fifty years and I am still doing this stuff? Sheesh, I am a slow learner in some ways! When I get back from Italy in October, I am going to look into the classes offered by the University of Vermont {UVM} as well as the Community College of Vermont {abbreviated to CCV and pronounced Chi-Chi-Voo in Italian!} where I am going now. The only change to my auditing decision is if UVM would make me pay tuition fees to audit which I think is unlikely. . In Vermont, Officially Old people can take caurses for a very minor fee if they are not going for a degree. I have done the degree thing and see no value for me in doing it again.
So, this week I am going to concentrate on pulling together the last bits of the class on numbers I am teaching to the fourth grade on Friday of this week. Then next week I will concentrate on the four-minute speech in Italian on what I did with these kids. This is due on Tuesday next. And along with that, I will put together the five-page paper in English on my lesson and my reflections about this which is due on the last day of class which is next Thursday!
Ok, my timer just went off so time to check on the laundry.

I think you can get muscle cramps when not enough calcium. I do find if I stop taking my multi vitamin I feel the difference. Not right away but a week to 10 days later. I like your thinking about the courses. Yes do it your way!

I slept horribly last night as well! Not leg cramps, just tossing and turning.

I hate filling the pill boxes too. I use them sometimes if i’m going through a really disorganized period and forgetting whether I took my meds and such. But right now I’m just taking them all out of the bottles and hoping that i’m remembering everything. *sigh*

I find I can get leg cramps when I do not drink enuf water during the day. But I am on a water pill too so that it is crucial to drink enuf water

Good for you. Take the class for the intellectual stimulation. No need to make it a chore.

I used to fill Brother’s pill box and syringes and I can see how a person could hate doing it! Three Cheers for You, for deciding to do only the homework you feel like doing!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay (times three!) hugs, Weesprite

I think auditing the classes would be much better. Not having to worry about a grade would probably make the classes much more enjoyable to you. Muscle cramps can also occur when you are not getting enough potassium into your system.Hugs, M

sounds like a good plan. And I’m sure you’ll pick up a lot of italian when you’re in Italy! For me its potassium. I try to eat a banana each day

Cats Rule is right about potassium and muscle cramps. I also found a tablet called “Leg Cramp” (I think). I can’t remember where I got it, it’s over the counter stuff. I think it has quinine in it, and it seemed to work.

Good idea. Why put pressure on yourself?

Low potassium, sodium, and or other vitamin deficiencies can lead to muscle cramping. According to WebMD, this may help: “If cramps wake you at night, take a warm bath and do some stretching exercises before going to bed. Keep your legs warm, and try not to point your toes while sleeping.” I get leg and toe cramps for no apparent reason, so I probably am deficient in something, too. I sit for long periods doing homework and I do think circulation plays a big role in whether you have swelling or cramping in your lower extremities. I hope you feel better!

Learning should be interesting and fun. Hurrah for doing it your way.

I have to admire you for committing to taking classes just to learn, rather than worrying about grades. I wouldn’t be able to take a class and only do homework that I want. I worry too much. That’s why I was exhausted and burned out by the time I graduated from college. And probably one reason why I couldn’t even make it through a single semester of law school.

I’m thinking auditing makes a great deal of sense here. Especially if it will be better for you. Not sure about the leg cramps. I do the same thing with my one week pill thingie…but then I have to stand there and get one pill out of each bottle and I don’t like THAT either, so I break down and fill the thing. Love to you! ~M
