The Rest of the Day

I really dug into the grammar this morning and I would say I have got about half of it done.

I also finished the raccontino. It is about a boy and a girl {summed up as i raggazi} who are dreaming of cookies {biscotti} . So, they go into the kitchen to get the ingredients {gli ingredienti} In a bowl {nella sordella} they put flour {la farina} milk {il latte}, an egg {un’uova}, some salt {il sale}  some ciocollata–well, you can guess that one right?–and some raisins {l’uva secca}.

Now in this kitchen is a cat {un gatto } and a mouse {un topolino.} The mouse jumped {saltava} into the ingredients and the cat pounced {balzava} on the mouse and ate him. Povero topolino!.

Now the children have have not seen this little drama so they put the cookies in the oven {nel forno.} When they take out the cookies and try them, the cookies were disgusting. {facevano scifo.} The children think it is because there is too much salt, {di troppo sale} but the cat knows that it is because of del escramento del topolino! {mouse turds! }

The basic story is from a story-board we were given where the children dream of cookies, find the ingredients, bake them and find the cookies are nasty.
I raccontinos! This morning I was going to make some scones but couldn’t find the baking powder. I even looked for it when I went up to the drug store. They have flour up there so why not baking powder? But they didn’t. I knew we had some somewhere but I had thought I looked everywhere. Now, on the front of this apartment is a glassed-in porch where we  still have some stuff that has not been unpacked yet. In the corner by the door are some shelves with things that it won’t hurt to get frozen because there is no heat out there. I came back from the drugstore and suddenly realized the baking powder might be at the back of the top shelf. So, I went into the cold, took everything out and, yes, there it was! So, tomorrow I will try some scones…I should have gone to the library today but it was just too cold to walk down there, I hope it is a little less brutally cold tomorrow. I need something to read….

Until later….

what a cute little story! glad you found your baking powder. i’m thinking i want to go to the library tomorrow but if it’s as cold as it was today, i think i will wait til maybe sunday when it’s supposed to be a bit warmer. take care,

I don’t really like scones so I’m like the Italian kids. They’re just these incredibly dense black holes of flour. Not my cuppa.

Hmmmmm, scones sounds marvelous!

I can just picture the big POOOOOF!! of flour, when the cat leaps into it chasing after the mouse! :o) !! I hope it was a black cat….that would be ever so much more interesting than a white one, in this scenario! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

It’s brutally cold here as well….better to stay indoors 🙂

It was awful outside this morning, and when the wind started to kick in — I don’t blame you for not going out today.

Not being able to locate things after a move is sooo frustrating.

ryn: Honestly, most of the parents wouldn’t particularly care. And that’s just as appalling. They’re too worried about their own lack of money and food and job and all that. Some would care, most would just tell their kid to stop giving the teacher a hard time.

Cute story! Mmmmm, scones!! Hope Fred is feeling well. Haven’t seen an entry from him in a while. Hugs, M

I know a British lady who loves her tea, but I don’t think she realizes how much it stains her teeth. Those scones sound good. Do you add cinnamon? You may have inspired me to be a copycat and make some too.

heehee 🙂

At Christmas time, if a Chinook isn’t blowing, we can put things outside to keep them in fridge like conditions. It is strange that they wouldn’t have baking powder.

Scones sound good. I have a new recipe for biscotti I was going to try. I don’t know if I will for a while after reading your little raccontino. :^) I’m looking forward to getting the art book.
