First Day of Class

Italian Phrase of the Day: Una tavola per due per favore. A table for two, please!

My comment on this: Include un bicchiere di vino anche, per favore. Please include a glass of wine also.

So, I called the college office this morning asking in which room Italian II was being held but was told, "I am sorry, we can’t give that information on the phone!" So, I leave the house an hour before class because goodness knows how long I will have to stand in line to get the information. However, I was lucky and there was no one in line. When the young lady got the information from a chart up on the wall, I  asked why she could not give it out on the phone and she said this was a recent change from last semester. Apparently an abusive boyfriend met his girlfriend when he called and found out which room the class was in and caused a lot of problems. Hence the trip to the front office. Mind you I was never asked for any identification. I could have been anyone asking for this info and not a student…

The class was in the same room as it was before and in fact, it followed Italian I. This morning there were four of us in Italian II. Me,  and Jessica {who now wants to be called Isabella } who took Italian I last semester and two other people who didn’t. Sofia  is taking it with her husband who was not going to be there that class and Donna, well, I think she had taken Italian I before but not last semester. There was immediate confusion because the college bookstore had the grammar book out for Italian I but not for II, so no one but me had it, the 13 interviews one from the bookstore was the book only and not the book and the CD, —- but we all had Pasta per due!

La prof mostly talked about the curriculum and the way our papers were graded. Since Jessica and I had already heard this all last semester, it was a bit boring for us. Anyway, we all did a little bit of interviewing in Italian in pairs and reporting on each other. It was not as scary as I thought and I need lots of practice in listening and talking. Next week we will have Sofia’s husband, Marty, added to the class and although Francesco from last semester was on the roll, he didn’t come to class. Hopefully he will next week. Oh, there was a bit of amusement when a young man walked in at 5 minutes to 12  {the class started at 11:15} and after sitting for 5 minutes, discovered this was not the class he was supposed to be in!

We have mountains of homework but it is not due until next Tuesday.

I went up to the grocery store we buy our food from and discovered they have NO yogurt starter. However, there are other stores and I can always get it on line.

QUOTATION FOR THIS MONTH: If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment. — Marcus Aurelius

Until later….

that is strange about their policy. especially since they don’t ask for identification.

Man, they didn’t really think that policy through did they? Sounds like you enjoyed your first class! Hugs, M

glad the class went well – first lessons tend to be a bit admin and boring.

ryn: I got the paint shop and the book. Both are in perfect condition. Hopefully I’ll start working on it tonight or tomorrow.

It’s a shame that one incident changes a convenience for their students, but I guess safety is more important than covenience.

If they’re going to have that policy (which makes sense), they should email the location to the students, since their email addresses should be on file. Or have some other secure way of letting them know without making them drive all the way down there to ask.

Cool that you went back to college. That’ll keep you young.

I think colleges are all in a secret conspiracy to make us all wait in line at the admissions office! *huggs*

That’s very weird about the class info. I can understand their thinking, but surely it could have been handled in a better fashion?
