So, Here is Monday {Edit Again}

EDIT SOME MORE!!!!
    è    <—-SEE? —–> perchè
YESSS!!!  This is exactly what I need and it comes from the editing tool bar and is right next to the smileys! So, thanks very much to the person who told me about this. {pb reader} And I seem to remember that someone told me this before but since I have the attention span of a gnat…

EDIT: Ok, I tried run/charmap and System tools/character map but the problem is , I have Widows 98 and neither of these work for 98! Any other suggestions? Italian Phrase of the Day: Non dimentichi portare i sue guanti. Don’t forget to bring your gloves.

My comment on this: No, non dimenticho portare il mia guanti perchè le tempo è freddo d’hiver a Vermont. No, I won’t forget to bring my gloves because the temperature is cold in the winter in Vermont.

Note:  There is supposed to be an accent over the e of perche and the e before "freddo". I can do this in Word but have no idea how to do it in Open Diary! Anyone know?

I came back here to the work room to write  the Italian bit at the top of the page and left the coffee to make and the toast to brown.  Ok, note to self: If you want your raisin bread toasted, it is a good idea to make sure the toaster is plugged in before you leave the kitchen!

Yesterday I had a massage and deliberately chose not to walk all day. I have next-to-no pain this morning. This doesn’t mean I won’t walk today. I have one medication ready at the drug store and Fred has a couple, too, so I will walk up there to get them. It is raining and sleet/ice is forecast {or was last night–I haven’t looked this morning} so that may be the sole extent of my walk. However, it occurred to me that part of the physical pain I have been feeling lately in my muscles may be because I took my nasty smelly-but-supportive inner-soles out of these shoes and have not replaced them. These are shoes I only wear in the winter because they are 11 wide and I wear heavy-duty thick,  warm socks during the winter. Getting another pair of supportive inner soles would be a good thing to do when I go to the drug store today, yes?

I am getting a tiny bit irritated with American Express. I am a person who pays her bill on line and in full every month before it is due. I recently got a second credit card which accumulates flying miles rather than points. On the original card, I could pay any time during the month and not have to wait until the "official" ending of the month when I got email to remind me to do this. I charged something to the new card a week or so ago and the site will not let me pay until the official closing day. Very annoying! I guess they hope I will forget and run up interest charges. Ha! No way!  I have put a reminder in red letters and in capital letters on my daily pop-up calendar! But apart from this, I actually like Amex a lot. When weird stuff was charged to my account, THEY were the ones who called me and asked if I had charged this, and they were excellent about taking the charges off and getting me a new card.

OK, list for the day:

  • do the morning Italian. I know exactly what i need to do– the two exercises where I got a lot wrong yesterday! I LOVE books that have the answers in the back. La prof encourages us to check our answers and correct them. She says that we need to indicate in some way which assignments we have used the answer page for because that helps her know what she needs to emphasize in class,. I use an asterisk * to indicate those I either corrected or had to look in the back before I could decide what I was being asked to do! And also, she says she gets very suspicious when all the answers are always  right!
  • see if I can put the new bird feeder together or if it requires Fred’s tools and expertise . I opened the box this morning and out slid a plastic envelope with screws in it!
  • walk up to the drug store for medication AND a pair of supportive inner-soles for these shoes.
  • get some laundry done
  • change the sheets
  • maybe go for a second walk? A lot will depend on the weather. I don’t mind walking in rain but I am not going to walk in freezing rain.

QUOTATION FOR THIS MONTH: If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment. — Marcus Aurelius

Until later….

Have you tried charmap? On your start menu click on run and then type charmap. That does all the funny characters. I’m not sure, though, if they also work on OD. Take care,

I’m sorry American Express is being a pain in the arse to you. And I wanted to say, you’d prob’ly not be walking today if you were here, cuz it’s pouring down rain! I did get a walk in ALMOST in-between the raindrops, though! hugs, Weesprite

go to the system tools, find the character map, you can copy and paste letters with accents from there 🙂

I seem to remember doing special characters by getting the number from the character map and then you hold down the alt key (I think) while you type the number and the character appears. But I could be mistaken. Better follow the instructions of previous noters. Those shoe inserts sound like a good solution, although I never would have thought of it.

You can also go into Control Panel on your computer, go to the Keyboard icon (double-click it) and change your keyboard settings to United States-International. You’ll have to reboot the computer, but then you can add accents using the apostrophe key for é á accents, and the ~ key for ñ (in Spanish) and à è accents. And if you know French, it also works for the ç. :o) And it should show up in OD; it always does when I do it in Spanish.

Oh, and of course, you can also type in English with little problem with the United States-International setting.

Start-Programs-Accessories-System tools- character map if it isn’t there it wasn’t loaded(or it’s been removed) from windows setup, it’s easy enough to add,..:) (98 here too)

There is a special characters button on your OD entry toolbar when I make an entry. Maybe I missed something here and you are not seeing the same toolbar. You should though, since you are a paying member of OD.

it’s just rain down here but it’s damp and quite chilly. i think it’s 43 degrees but it feels so much colder. hope you get your computer problem figured out. take care,

oh you are such a pearl Patricia. You are so wonderfully organised and so ahead with your electronic gadgets. I should use my electronic agenda – it would stop me from being late with everything!

I’m glad you asked the question about foreign characters. I trid the suggestion from wintergrey & the map came right up. Did you get this to work on OD? I will also be looking for the special character button on my OD toolbar. I haven’t looked for that yet.

I think all charge cards are a pain! I use the Amazon card to get points towards purchases on their site. That way I have a lot more flexibility on using the “points”. I have it set so all my bills are paid by bank transfer…the full balance on the charge cards also. Saves on postage and the chance of missing a bill and having to pay interest and late charges. I’m not sure how it would workfor the fancy accents and stuff, but I do all my entries on Word and then just copy and paste to OD. I have lost more entries to cyber space in the past. That way I have a record on my hard drive of my entries… Stay warm!!
