Morning Entry

Good morning, everyone! It is just after 6:30 am here in Vermont and a few seconds ago, the heat came on in the house. The thermostat is set at 70 degrees. It is getting to the put-away-summer-clothes time and-get-out-fall-and-winter clothes time. Fortunately I do have a couple of heavier long-sleeved tops hanging in the wardrobe…

Last night I went to the book club meeting –which was, as usual worth going to–and as it ended at about 8 pm, I found myself yawning hugely and being very glad I am always offered a ride home. I always walk there and I could walk back, but if my friend Carol comes to the meeting, she is always kind enough to offer me a ride home. She is unmarried, a bit younger than me and lives fairly close to her 96 year old mother who lives alone by her own choice and  is still active and involved. We always ask Carol how her mother is and last night she told us this story. A few days ago her mother took her car —and, yes, she still drives–to get its annual inspection and left the house at about 10 am. When she wasn’t back by 2 pm, Carol was getting a bit worried. When her mother finally came in at about 2:30, she told Carol that her car had failed its inspection because it was rusted out quite badly underneath and so she had bought another car, a 1995 VW Jetta! And her old car was donated to the fire department for them to practice their jaws of life techniques on! Carol worries a lot about her mother driving because she failed her license test. Her mother immediately appealed and drives while she is waiting for the appeals hearing! She doesn’t drive much or far but she does drive. Carol says she is often torn between admiring her mother and wanting to give her a good shaking!

Anyway, I forced myself to get up this morning a bit earlier than I wanted to because I was too tired last night to puzzle out what exactly was wrong with my little story in Italian. This morning I looked at it and knew immediately what it was and corrected it. I should know by now that I can’t do anything that required intelligence or creativity after 4 in the afternoon! I have the last class of the week this morning. Then I have to start on the homework. She always gives us a huge amount on Thursdays because the class doesn’t meet again until Tuesdays. I also need to start planning a still life for pastels…

Now I am off to get breakfast and then make sure I have everything I need packed in my backpack…

Until later….

You know yourself well. Yesterday afternoon at work I couldn’t do a report because my brain just wouldn’t focus on it so I left the report on my desk for this afternoon. I know I’ll have a fresher attitude at the start of my shift. That report will get done today.

You haven’t changed over the summer, I see. Same ole’ worker bee I know and love 🙂

I like the fact that you are already writing stories even though you just recently began to take the Italian class! That makes it so much more interesting for you than just memorizing words and little lines of dialogue would be! I think Carol should just admire her mom…. it’s not a good thing when adults start to worry over their parents as if they were kids! Here’s wishing you a lovely day. hugs, Weesprite

That story about the old lady driving is scary! Just in time for Halloween. LOL! Maybe the “can’t think after 4:00” syndrome is what’s wrong with me. Last night’s massage class was a disaster. I’ll post it later on. Glad yours was at least fixable.

It was very chilly here in Kentucky this morning. It got down in the 40’s. But, in just a couple more days, it is supposed to be close to 80 again! Go figure. I would be worried, too, if my mom failed her driving test and was still driving. My grandma, who is 92 and still volunteers at the local hospital and lives alone, voluntarily gave up her driving privilege at 80 yrs. old because sherealized her reflexes were not as good and she didn’t want to take a chance hurting someone else.

M’s grandmother still drives.. much to the dismay of all of us. I’m at my best in the morning too..

I hope you have fun in class. 🙂

I thought you had said grandma was 98?

WOW! I hope that I will be as active at 96! Actually, I wish my MIL was that active and shes only 83. ( only? LOL) Anyway, it is probably the things like driving that keep her ” young ” It was cool here this morning too. A nice refreshing 43. I absolutely adore fall!!! HUgs, M

Sure feels like fall, even though it’s still summer until tomorrow.

You may want to look at “Friends, Lovers, Chocolate” by Alexander McCall Smith for your book club. He also wrote “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”.

My great grandma drove until she was almost 90. I too was torn between admiration and extreme fear! Be well,

RYN: Thank you. I love your little mantras. I need to print that one out and hang it on the wall next to the one that says “You can accomplish anything one small step by one small step.”

My neighbor lady just turned 75 and her mother is still alive also. It’s funny to hear her talk about it. Her mother is I believe 94.

This will be my first year without snow and I completely miss the excitment of the weather changing. I can only imagine how worried she must have been about her mother being gone so long. <3 Annie-Rae
