Lower-case Arrrgh!*

EDIT:   So  this edit will give you some idea of what a monumental screw-up the Community College’s website is. I just got a phone call telling me that because of a "glitch" {and that is the word she used}, I still owed them $50! {This, of course, is the vague "fee" that they charge us non-degree students for having the temerity to register…}

So, I kept her on the phone with me while I manipulated my way through the various levels to get to where I paid again. Of course, when I clicked on the link to take me to this, it first let me in as "guest." Twice! Finally, clicking on exactly the same link for the third time got the damn thing to recognize me and call me Patricia. So, I told her I was where I could pay and she hung up.

Now, if you think that  was the end of their "glitches", oh, how wrong you are! I put in the information using the same American Expess card that had been happily accepted a few hours ago but this time I got a message in red telling me that it hadn’t been accepted and to call the bursar.

Ummmm, if you want me to call the bursar, you poor excuse for a website, give me an damned phone number! At this point, I shut the whole thing down and went off to finish the dishes.

A few minutes ago I went back and this time had to money subtracted from my checking account. And, finally, it all went through. But you can be damned sure I will be watching my account with the eye of the proverbial eagle to be sure their stupid system hasn’t taken more than $50!
Ten minutes ago, this diatribe would have been called "ARRRGH!"

But I FINALLY got registered on line for the two classes I want to take. One is a retake of Pastels II and the other is Italian I.

Last semester the community college was finally forced by legislative action to join all other Vermont colleges in letting Officially Old people take classes with no tuition. Up to that point, we had been charged half the tuition fee plus a "fee" of $50. This "fee" was non-refundable as well as vague in purpose and use. When the legislature brought the community college in line with all other colleges in Vermont, my tuition was refunded but not my $50 fee. So, when I registered on line a few minutes ago, I expected to pay at least $120. This would have been $20 for the model fee for the pastels class {up $5 from last semester} plus the mysterious "fee" for each class I registered for. Imagine my surprise when the bill came out to be $20 in total  and this was clearly marked a model fee! After I have eaten something, I will tackle the bookstore on line and see what text is required for beginning Italian!

The other part of the Arrgh! is because it is chilly. The thermometer above my computer says 68 degrees. I am wearing shorts, a short-sleeved top and sandels and on top of that, my summer light cotton robe! This is not a fashion statement but an attempt to warm up! Any why, you may ask, am I not wearing a sweater and a pair of jeans? Well, they are all packed and in a sealed box somewhere in this apartment!

Until later….

July 24, 2006

i know what you mean…it’s chilly here, too. i might just have to wear a light jacket til it warms up later this morning. strange weather we are having!! take care,

July 24, 2006

Patrisha, somehow I am shocked that you are cold at 68 degrees. Yet, I remember you out there walking when it was in the single digits! You are funny! I think that’s terrific about the courses. I plan to take free courses, too, when I finally retire. Love, Anna

it was chilly here this a.m, too…I’m wearing a robe if you can imagine!

July 24, 2006

Wow, that’s quite a temperature drop. Well, it will warm up as the day wears on, undoubtedly. Wish our temps would drop about 10 degrees. That would be perfect.

July 24, 2006

68 still sounds lovely to me! I’m told that by this time next year my teeth will be chattering when it gets that cool, but I’m not so sure I believe that! Neat about the tuition thing! There SHOULD be perks for “Officially Older folks”. About Time! Love you! ~M

July 24, 2006

I read the word “chilly” and it took a moment to comprehend what you were saying 🙂 I’m coming over. Be there in several hours 😀

July 24, 2006

seniors here go for the cost of the books/supplies to community college as do any students registered in public/private schools…. it is 78* this morning, great considering we’ve been sweltering for so long…… 🙂

I wish I remembered chilly. Good luck with the bookstore.

July 24, 2006

Yay – free classes! (huggles)

July 24, 2006

I’m jealous of your 68 degrees.

July 24, 2006

Ooh! Chilly! I’d be quite happy for a little bit of your chill right now. Heat wave. Woot. But the fact that your warm stuff is in a box is a testament to how prepared you are for the move, right? Yay!

July 24, 2006

At least something warmer is somewhere in the apartment. It could me miles away in a moving van proceeding towards more miles away. 🙂 – – – –

68 sounds heavenly. i hate doing things online sometimes. it can be such a hassle!

July 24, 2006

I’d be calling the state and the school to find out exactly wat the $50 is for and whether or not they can actually charge that. It smells awfully fishy to me.

July 24, 2006

so, they’re not letting you out of paying that nebulous $50? wonder what it’s for? take care,

RYN: I have run out… =D Im not giving up yet… Im being stubborn with myself! =D

July 24, 2006

It’s going to be hot again in a couple of days. WE had a nice 85 degree weekend. Now it’s 85 and humid so I am sure it is headed your way. Watch out! LOL

July 24, 2006

oooh, that woulda pissed me off too! In fact I had a kinda-sorta similarly annoying experience this afternoon myself. Actually it wasn’t similar at all, except for the annoying part. I sure hope that the next time you register for classes, it goes MUCH more smoothly…as it should!! hugs, Weesprite

still in the upper 90s here – though it was chilly about 5am this morning – i actually got under the covers for 30 mins – it was lovely.

July 24, 2006

Well, it appears that one of the glitches was finally in your favour. Want to bet that the beancounters will find this one and contact you at some future point in time?

July 24, 2006

*huggs* It was 114 this weekend and we had no electricity. I would love some 68 degrees right now!

July 24, 2006

My daughter in the Sacramento area of California just told me it is 115 degrees there today. I think she would love to be back there with all the rest of in Vermont. It is only in the low 90’s here in the Portland area. Stay warm LOL!

July 24, 2006

It’s cold here too but I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

July 25, 2006

I just bought Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9…it’s a junior version photoediting tool but it goes far beyond what I could do before. I can see it is going to be a real revelation and that I’ll learn much about photography and light.

RYN:True. he does tend to be insecure. I am majorly insecure. Did you see the videos i posted?

July 25, 2006

I can not thank you enough for the gift subscription! That was the nicest thing anyone on here has ever done for me! Thank you so much! It’s greatly appreciated!

July 25, 2006

Free classes? WOW! Lucky you. That’s such a nusiance about the registration hassle, but you worked it out. Go Patrisha, go! Good luck with the rest of your move. I hope you are well settled before classes start. ryn: Hahahaha. Good one!

July 25, 2006

I’m glad you get to display your art! By the way, how much does it cost, roughly, to have a largish canvas framed, do you think?

Ick, sorry you went through all that trouble! I hope it doesn’t double charge you or anything! Have fun with your classes. I would love to go back to school but for the moment and I fear for a long time I will not be able to. By the way, You look Dam good for your age!
