More Thoughts on the Move

This morning I feel sad and on the edge of tears and overwhelmed at everything that has to be done. This is the "run in circles, scream and shout" bit of my get-it-done mantra.**  But, I keep telling myself, things have been done, things are going to be done and eventually, things will all be done and we will be moved.

We have a meeting with Bryce the new landlord {whose name I constantly want to misspell} this evening and today it is my task to reschedule the meeting with Mike {the present landlord –in case you are losing track! LOL} I am going to suggest tomorrow after he gets home from work. My big fear is that things will turn out that he is not going to be able to move us. {Again, in case you forgot, he has offered to get some friends from his church and move our stuff downstairs.} Mike is a good guy but he often forgets to do stuff he has said he will do and has to be nagged —ummm reminded! An example–we had a loose bit of carpet on one of our stairs and I was concerned that Fred might catch his toe in it and fall so I mentioned it to Mike. He said he would staple it up one day after work. It took THREE reminders before it was done. And it got done finally because I interrupted him in what he was doing and told him it NEEDED to be done right that minute. We HAVE to be assured that these people are coming to move us…

Something just happened that has made me feel better. We have a wireless doorbell and sometimes when someone rings Mike and Melanie’s bell, our doorbell rings too. This just happened so I went downstairs and saw Mike talking to someone. I asked him then and there when we could reschedule our meeting and he said at 5 pm tomorrow when he gets home from work. So, that make me feel a lot better. I also talked to Melanie a bit and they think they have found somewhere in New Hampshire to live. She was very funny telling me that they had seen every place available in the whole state and that this was the last one. But, she also said that if it had been the first one, it is the one they would have chosen because it meets every criteria. {Mike is going to law school in New Hampshire which is why they are moving}

She also asked me right out of the blue would I be willing to give her some instruction in calligraphy before she left!  I just checked around and found a couple of my books on bookhand calligraphy which is pretty easy to learn. {My favorite is chancery cursive, though.}  Anyway, I told her not to buy expensive equipment to start with . One of those pens with the ink cartridges would do fine to start with and if she loved it and got into it more then she could get the the lovely pens you dip into real India ink!

So, time to start the day.

  • breakfast
  • dishes
  • look again on line for prices of moving boxes
  • maybe go out this afternoon with Fred to get moving boxes?
  • look for my bathing suit and try it on
  • decide if I want to go to the senior swim time between noon and 1 pm.

** My get-it-done mantra is "When in trouble, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout–and then make a list." It is very freeing knowing I am giving myself permission to panic and flap around in public if necessary because then, having got that out of the way, I will proceed to get to what needs to be done in an organized manner!

Until later….

I always need permission to panic. 🙂

I like the way you see the problem and immediately set out to solve it …

Some tasks in life just totally discombobulate me too. Moving was probably one of ’em…. though it’s been many years since we’ve had to move, so I can’t remember for sure. I know it was never fun! Even though actually BEING in the new place was ‘most always great! I hope things continue to go well for you. hugs, Weesprite

No wonder you feel overwhelmed. You DO have a lot to do. Your approach will sort things out, though.

moving is overwhelming!!! there’s no doubt about it! but, once you make your list, you will be just fine and get it all done with time left over! take care,

I love your mantra. Good source of boxes: The liquor store. Don’t know if you have them there. Here, liquor is sold in a separate store from groceries. Grocery store is also good. Apple boxes in the produce section are perfect because they have built-in handles. You may have to reserve them in advance if they have a box-crushing policy.

You’ll move just fine. You have no choice. I had to keep reminding myself of that when we moved out here to NJ. What a hike that was. I have faith in you and Fred that you will get this all done. 🙂

Liquor stores are usually a good source of free moving boxes. Might give your Mormon movers a start though.
