Starting the Day EDIT

EDIT: I found my cell phone!  I went into the bedroom to make the bed and right in the middle of doing this, I glanced over to the box on my bedside table where I keep Ipod cords, the card reader I attach to the laptop and various sundries of this kind. I thought, "That looks like…." and it was! I have NO recollection of putting it there!
Fred made a FANTASTIC potato salad yesterday. It was slightly spicy with lots of crunchy things in it just the way I like it and I ate two plates full! So, today it is time to eat lightly to balance that out. Fortunately we have a watermelon!
I really hate this being in Limbo feeling. We know we are going to move but we don’t know the date. We know where we are going to move to but we can’t get started on it because Mike and Melanie have to move out first!I still have not found my cell phone. And it suddenly occurred to me it would do no good to call it {even if I knew the number} because I keep it turned off anyway!  So, you may wonder, why do I even HAVE one if i keep it turned off and no one {including me} knows what the number is? Well, I got it when Fred had surgery and a heart attack a few years ago. I was desperate to get out of the house occasionally for a walk and so got this so he could call me if anything happened while I was out. So, you may ask, doesn’t Fred have the number? Well, he did. I wrote it on a card which used to be on his desk. but he recently started cleaning that off and so, no card! Well, I am doing my best to put it out of my mind and hope it will turn up. And if it doesn’t, well, I will cancel the service because I seldom use it anyway…Yesterday was hot and horribly humid. I spent a lot of the day in the air-conditioned bedroom. Which reminds me that another good thing about moving downstairs is that Mike redid the wiring so they could have air conditioning when Melanie got pregnant and Gretta was born. So, when they move, and when we move, we can have air conditioning for days like yesterday. Actually, I think Fred is going to make Mike an offer for the air conditioners he had in already which will save us having to buy more. {Hmmm, I must remind Fred he said he was going to do that before Mike starts taking them out of the windows…}
Positive things about moving downstairs:

  • I will have an art room! {dances around ecstatically!}
  • We plan eventually to also put a couch/bed/futon in that room too so that we can have overnight visitors.
  • The only stairs are two shallow ones off the deck.
  • There is a porch which will be great storage space. In fact, a lot of our "stuff" will go in there, we have decided, until we find a permanent place for it.
  • Only one flight of steps to the basement when laundry is being done
  • There is also a dedicated line in the basement for a freezer. I don’t know if Brice {new owner} is going to use it but if not, we might. I would like a freezer.
  • It will be SO much easier to bring groceries home–no lugging them upstairs!
  • There is a dishwasher. {Actually, this is not a big thing for me. I really quite like doing dishes but there is no doubt a dishwasher gets the dishes cleaner than I do! }
  • We get to stay in the same area and with the same very nice neighbors. This also means I can still walk to the library and the drug store and we are still within reasonable driving distance of the supermarket, and the doctor’s office.
  • Mike, Melanie and at least one neighbor have offered to help us move.
  • Oh, and have I mentioned I will have an art room???

Negative things about moving downstairs:

  • The rent almost doubles {cringes and runs away screaming}
  • Moving is a hassle. But, since Brice as the new owner wants to live in our apartment, we would have to move anyway.
  • I don’t know how complicated it will be to get the computers set up downstairs and the network operational again. {Actually, I am hoping I can get Mike to do this for us}
  • I HATE moving utilities. I have NEVER had it go easily!  We have the cable, the phone and the gas and electricity…oh, and the mail, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem since it is only from one mailbox to the one next door.

Ok, time to drink coffee, play a game of Bookworm and start my day by taking a walk. It is cool and sunny this morning so far…

Until later….

The entire cell phone scenario sounds exactly like something that would happen in my house. Ooh,an art room! I would be on cloud nine 🙂

The only good thing about moving, IMO, is that it forces you to look at every single thing you own and purge the “garbage.” I don’t know if it will work, though, if you’re only going downstairs! LOL!

Did you say you’re going to have an Art Room???? Really?????? How lovely!!!! It will all fall into place you know… It always does. Try not to let it make you cazy… Love to you! ~M

I can’t wait to see pictures of the art room when it gets set up. 🙂

random question: what is the new picture you have up for your diarist picture? The little yellow boxes. I stared at it ten minutes and can’t seem to figure it out 😉

If Mike could give you a ballpark timeline for the move it would help. Has the property sale concluded or are there any “subject to’s” that need to be taken care of before you know for sure? I wouldn’t change anything or make a move to move until I knew for sure. But I’m a black hat woman when it comes to things like this.

did i hear you say an art room? ;-)i can tell it will be wonderful once you have got the moving bit over and done with. and who knows, maybe you could sell some of your art to help with the cost of the rent? i think that you and friend will be very happy there. 🙂

Well, I can’t imagine not having my cell phone though it was only a few years ago that I had neither a cell phone or beeper. I am sure you will love the art room. Back in the house in New Orleans, I had a huge room for my office, though it was a rental house, where now I still have an office which is the front bedroom of the mobile home we purchased after we moved to Texas after the storm.

July 5, 2006

It is alot smaller than the other office but the large window faces out on the woods and pastures of the country area we bought our land in. We had only window units in New Orleans but this house has central air which is wonderful! I don’t envy you the move but downstairs is better than the 400 miles we moved last year. Have a great day.

Looking at the list of pros and cons for your move, sounds like a typical move…. it’s just so much harder when it’s not really a voluntary move. Hang in there, it will all work out… sending happy good moving vibe your way!

July 5, 2006

yep thanks for reading the letter to my sister. I want to send something that makes things better, not worse….

Occasional guests like…southerners? 🙂

Good luck with that cell phone and with the move.

Your list of positives is longer than the negatives, so that’s good.

Hi, my field is audiology. You know we test hearing and fit people with hearing aids. I will not be here for awhile, because we are going to CO, for a week. Take care

Many hugs. I’ve known that feeling about loosing vital items — for me, it’s the keys that always turn up missing, now I have a little leather tag that snaps right into the bag and has its own zippered compartment. Yeah, I’m paranoid…

July 6, 2006

I’m happy for you Patrisha. I really am. ryn: Thank you for all your good wishes.

July 6, 2006

Oh yum that potato salad sounds delicious. I wish I knew how to make it. I tried and the potatoes were hard..

July 10, 2006

Yay, you found your phone! Sounds like the move will really be a Good Thing, even if it’s a hassle… and you won’t need to rent a moving truck or hire a crew since the stuff is only going down a couple of flights of stairs! (huggles)
