A Hopeful Entry

The new landlord came to see us today and offered us the apartment downstairs! It is a MUCH higher rent, so much higher that initially I panicked, but after Fred and I talked it over, we have decided that we could swing it and there were lots of advantages.

 First, it IS downstairs and that will be good for both of us. No more carrying bags of groceries up and down the stairs. Another good thing is that Mike {present landlord} has done a lot of new wiring and we should be able to run more than the tiny little air conditioner we have now. It is a two-bedroom apartment {although the second one is very small} and so I will be able to have an art room. There is a rather rickety glassed-in porch in the front which will be good storage space. There is a bath in the bathroom. {Fred is pleased about this since we only have a shower up here, but I much prefer a shower! }

A really nice thing is that Mike offered himself and some of his friends from the local Mormon church to move us, an offer we very much appreciate since Fred has shaky legs and I have a bad back and hip. I was worrying a bit about how we would get moved wherever we went and this offer of Mike’s seems almost like a sign that even though this will almost double our rent, we are doing the right thing. We both like our little town where I can walk pretty well anywhereI want to go, and we both like our street where we have neighbors whom we really like and who really care about us. I will still be within a short drive of the local Community College.

There are a few things we need to talk over with the new landlord but if we all agree, we will, hopefully, be staying here.

Until later….

Good luck with your move. I didn’t read about you wanting or needing to move. I guess I missed those entries.

June 29, 2006

Oh, that’s wonderful!!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you… I know how much you like where you are…. Everything happens for a reason….everything~ Love to you! ~M

It sounds so hopeful and promising, I am excited for you….. things so often work out, just when we think they won’t…. in ways we never expected. I hope this is one of those times.

The downstairs apartment sounds ideal. And it’s a wonderful offer of moving help that Mike and the church members have made.

June 29, 2006

That sounds really good … I hope it works out happily.

P.S. — Your own art room! Wahoo!

I’m going to miss Malcolm. Best of luck to you all.

June 30, 2006

oh, what wonderful news!! And the downstairs apartment does sound like it will be nicer…. especially the DOWNstairs part, and the extra room…. I hope this works out! I’m glad you have helpers lined up for the move, also! Yaaaaaaaaaaah!! hugs, Weesprite

June 30, 2006

Happy this is working out well for you two. Your own art room!

June 30, 2006

the much higher rent doesn’t sound so nice but the rest of it does. if you two can swing the extra rent it sounds like a perfect solution for you! take care,

So glad you can stay where you are. An art room is a big incentive.

June 30, 2006

The downstairs place sounds perfect if you can swing the rent.

June 30, 2006

Except for the higher rent, it sounds ideal! I was thinking that if you had an extra bedroom, you’d have room for your art stuff…

You’ll adjust to your new apt just fine. ANd staying in the neighborhood you love will be worth it 😉

June 30, 2006

That does sound hopeful!

June 30, 2006

hope the new apartment works out. it sounds nice! x

Will they leave you the washer and dryer? For that extra rent you should have some perks you didn’t have before, really.

June 30, 2006

This sounds very positive. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you and Fred that this works out in the best possible way 🙂

June 30, 2006

Oh, this does sound good. Especially the no-more-stair-climbing bits.

June 30, 2006

Oh, that’s WONDERFUL!! Now, about the rent: Could you get assistance from some Elder Organization, or Social Service, or some such? There’s laws around here about how much a landlord can raise the rent, etc. HUGS,

June 30, 2006

Are you going to explore other places anyway? It seems that moving 50 ft. or 1/2 mile are equally disruptive, so you might find someplace even more perfect (and more affordable).

June 30, 2006

That sounds wonderful! I hope everything works out for you and Fred.

Sounds like a nice idea. I hope it works out. 🙂

June 30, 2006

That sounds so wonderful Patrisha. Hope it all works out for you! Haha, I used to live on a THIRD floor walk-up…THAT was interesting, let me tell you! ryn: I love gardening.

OOooo, you’re own art room. How nice!

I’m really happy for you!!!! That is nice there going to help you move! <3 Annie-Rae

I’m confused, why can’t you stay in the apartment upstairs? Did I miss an entry somewhere?

June 30, 2006

That is wonderful. I am so glad to hear you have the lower level. I just hate to see people your age waling up steps all the time. Sorry I do that with my parents too who have a 2 story house with bedrooms upstairs. They are your ages and I really wish they would move out of that house.
