Morning Entry

Unfortunately, I had to fill my car with gas yesterday and I was horrifed to see it was $2.45 cents a gallon. I seldom use my car so when I do fill it up, the jump in the price of gas always surprises me. Mind you, this is still nowhere near what gas costs in England. When I had worked out the difference between liters and gallons and, of course, the difference between dollars and pounds, it came to more than $4 a gallon! Another reason why it is highly unlikely that I will ever drive in England! {They also drive on the wrong side of the road, y’know! }

I am contemplating going to a "traditional oil painting techniques" demonstration at the art supply store at eleven o’clock this morning. I am not really interested in traditional oil painting {I really dislike the smell of the stuff that one mixes the colors with}  so I probably won’t go,  but in a couple of weeks they are having one  with the water-soluble oils and I will go to that for two reasons. First, because I would like to see the techniques for this medium and secondly, the artist is the one who teaches this course at the community college! So, if I decide to take oil painting at any time, he will be my instructor. I also happen to know him by sight since he is a regular patron of the library where I used to work. I am pretty sure he doesn’t know me {except by sight, maybe since I was the Saturday morning person which was when he always came in}.
While I am typing this, I am eating the morning apple and I will follow it by a piece of toast with coffee. After that, it will be time for a walk.

Until later…

I love that the Brits ‘drive on the wrong side of the road’. Art classes sounds fascinating – SOMEDAY I want to try some kind of painting. I know I can’t do it, but I still want to try. I also like your relationships with your teachers. I like to hear a teacher appreciating/critiquing another teacher. Sometime I’d like to hear more detail about how you taught – tricks of the trade? Good day.

🙂

I’ve never heard of water soluble oils. Would that be acrylics? I got used to the smell of oils, linseed and turpentine when my Mom painted in our dining room. I rather like the smells.

It’s actually more like about $6.20 a gallon!! It’s ludicrously expensive here at the moment. Currently more than 90p a litre on average, which works out as around £3.40 per US gallon. It costs me about £40 to fill up my tiny car!

My Mom paints…. and when I was a kid, worked in oils. I never got the art…can’t draw a straight line with a ruler. But I love watching her. These days she has little time for it…something I’m hoping to remedy once we find a place for Gary and give her a break! Love you! ~M

This is the only reason I dread getting my car… paying for gas. eeep. 🙂

You crack me up, they drive on the road side of the road you know. Well, you should know better than us. Gas is $2.49 or higher here as i found out when I filled up the other night. There was a piece in the paper a few days ago to said to expect gas prices to drop. THAT WAS NOT A DROP. I wish I had your stamina, I always feel like I am saying that. Maybe after I lose the weight, it will come back.

I’ve seen water-soluble oils in action–I like them, though I don’t understand them. They do seem to stay wet longer than acrylics.

Hero and I have a constant conversation on this. He filled up my SUV for $55 today! I say, put $20 worth in, and it may go down in price for the next time. This is a little game we play. He looks for the best price, sometimes driving out of his way, which defeats the purpose.

I enjoy working with those oil paints that you clean with water. Lately I have been using just acryllic.
