Monday Morning
I hope everyone who celebrates the holiday has a good Fourth of July. As for me, I do not celebrate the Day We {the British} Lost the Colonies! But I will watch the Pops concert on PBS tonight.
I have started my usual Monday chore–the laundry. So i will be up and down two flights of stairs all day. However, I still intend to get out for a walk some time today. Last night I pigged out on potato chips and onion dip and the scales were not kind to me this morning. I am assuming that it is water retention from all that salt and that it will be gone in a day or so!
I am not doing well in trying to lose more weight. I am not making the effort I was when I was doing the measure everything and walk daily routine for the University of Vermont. So, why can’t I do it for myself? I am finding the same thing with art. I conscientiously did two drawings a week for the class but I don’t seem to have the motivation to do it just for me. Now, having said that, I did sit down and play with oil pastels yesterday and they are very interesting. Tomorrow I have to make the final decision as to what class I am going to take and Oil Pastels I and Drawing II are running neck and neck at the moment. I have thought of taking both… Actually, I may not be allowed to do that. I am a non-traditional student {otherwise known as part-time} and there may be a limit as to what I can take without having to enter a degree program. I know I don’t want to do that.
Fred just got up. He is so not a morning person and I am just the opposite. I have had to learn to refrain from indulging in disgusting bouts of cheeriness and activity when he first gets up! But he is polite. I usually get him his morning cup of coffee and he does thank me !
Until later…
i, too, am the frustratingly cheery morning person. makes my family crazy…i try so to behave…can’t be other though… your observation about doing it “for yourself” is really quite insightful…now if we figure out the answer, i suggest we write a book and make a million selling it to everyone else out there who is asking the same question!

I’m not much of a morning person, although I prefer getting up early instead of sleeping in. I’m cranky no matter what time I get up.

But that’s a benefit of being retired; we can do what we want, when we want to. I also can not write except for a direct and immediate audience. I can write an email or I can write a diary entry, because in most cases, someone reads it and responds almost immediately. I do not the patience to write for publication, because then the gratification would be delayed. True, there might be some….

..monetary reward, but that doesn’t matter to me at all. What I want is the ATTENTION, and I want it NOW, or at the most, within a few minutes or hours. You, too, have reasons why you can draw for class, but not “for yourself.” I think whatever we do is FINE. It’s okay to be the way we are, no matter what anyone else might do! Here’s wishing you a good day! hugs, Weesprite

I’m glad Fred says thank you for the coffee. Funny how we need motivation for almost everything we do. Oh, I’m glad you like your haircut – curly – good for you.

Hey Patrisha. I don’t usually have any inspiration to write unless I’m in school or have someone to direct me. You’re the same with drawing. Don’t worry, you’ll find your groove again. -James

Ah. you are a “lark”…. I’m with Fred…don’t bother me until I’ve had at least one cup of coffee.. I’m much more of a night owl… Have a good day! ~M

I’m a morning person too. Rich is not. Interesting how we pair up with non-morning people 🙂

lol I am sorry to laugh at everything you just said but I can so relate. I am terrible at doing things for myself. I should probably sign up for another screenwriting class as that is when I got the most done. Trying to do it for me is a waste of time. Although I do have the first several pages done, just not posted. And >c

I am so not a morning person. My mother always let me sip a while on my first cup of coffee before saying good morning otherwise all she got was a grunt, to her cheerful “I have been up for hours” GOOD MORNING!! My students have always made fun of the fact that I go to bed “early” but I force myself to. Otherwise I stay up to 3 and get up at 11 or 12. Half the day is gone then.

Oh, several months ago I bid on a vintage statue of a corgi from England. The woman who I purchased it from sent me a note about it’s shipment that made my laugh until I cried. “Who knew that this old guy would wind up in the colonies. Take good care of him.” I wrote her back that I would and that the Indians no longer attacked at dawn & therefore he would be safe. She responded with a huge laugh.

I am the same way when it comes to doing things for myself. I have a much easier time doing art when I have someone instructing me on what it is I should be doing. Because of that, I haven’t done any drawing, or painting since I left school over a year ago. I think it’s all just a matter of having the motivation.

I’m a get-up-early-and-get-it-done person, but I can’t STAND cheerfulness until at least 9:00! LOL!

Oh, I am so like Fred when it comes to mornings! The cheeriness of others makes my having to get up so much worse. It’s good that you understand that and compromise.

RYN: I am not sure what the sticky thing is called. The person who recommended it said he got it at a camera shop and it is a generic fix for any camera without a strap to hold on the lens cap. As for the forum, I have been reading at http://www.flickr.com/groups/fz20/ concerning my specific camera. There may be others for other cameras. I haven’t checked. I hope that helps.

I’m a morning person. I just don’t want anybody in my space for the first hour or so!

Heyy Patrisha, Read Your Note: In order to continue into an honors leveled English class, we are required to read 3 books over the summer, one of them being Life of Pi… another Beowulf, and the last one, Secret Life of Bees Next year as a junior, I’ll have to read four, but as a senior, taking AP classes, 5 books will need to be completed. Talk to you later, -James
