Early Morning Entry
Last night Mike-the-landlord brought the 51 pounds flat pack of my new drawing table from my car and up the stairs as if it weighed only a pound or two! And if you are wondering how I know it weighs 51 pounds, that came from Fred who found the information on line! he likes to know things like this! Anyway, while Mike was up here, we asked him how Melanie, his wife, is doing. Their baby, Greta, was supposed to be here on June 21st and she is still not here! Mike said that if Greta isn’t here by next Tuesday, the doctors are going to induce Melanie. Melanie’s mother is here which must be helpful for her and she is still going to work every day.
To show you how times have changed, when I was pregnant with my first child who was born in 1956, I was expected to stop work before I started to show! Heaven forbid that children should see a pregnant teacher! With the second one, since he was born on August 31st, 1977, {and, yes, that date isn’t a mistake. There ARE 21 years between them} I did stop at the end of May when school got out but I was all prepared {and so was my principal} for me to come back to school ready to pop! As it happens, he was born on the evening of the first full day of school and the principal made an announcement to the whole school over the intercom the next day!
I am waiting for Mike to come and get an old and not working monitor of Fred’s to take to the recycle place. He told us he would pick it up some time this morning because he was going to carry other stuff out there this morning, but I bet he forgets… He has more on his mind than trash!
I have put the ingredients for a white loaf in the bread machine. When I asked Fred which he wanted, brown or white, he chose white. I prefer the white bread too. This is a new recipe which, oddly enough, uses a teaspoon of lemon juice! I can’t taste it but the bread is so good that I am not inclined to change the recipe at all. The brown loaf is also good but it uses one-eighth of a cup of molasses which makes it just a tiny bit too sweet for me. if I have a choice, I will choose savory over sweet any day. {Of course, that doesn’t include dark chocolate which is a law unto itself, right?}
I found a couple of photographs of my sister last night and printed them out first in black and white and next in color. When I have finished here I am going to put them both inside my sketch book and use them as a portrait of my sister which I can work on this afternoon while Jean is looking at our portfolios. Which reminds me, I need to give everything one last look and make sure my name is on everything. I know I haven’t put it on the actual portfolio case itself so, that is what I am now off to do.

Yes, times have changed a lot, mostly for the better. I do think it is good if a woman can make her own choice. I fear that sometimes it’s almost expected of women TO keep on working ’til they pop, though…. if they don’t, well, what’s wrong with them?? hugs, Weesprite

I remember when you weren’t even allowed to say the WORD “pregnant”! LOL! Lest somebody know what you’ve been up to, I guess. That’s a very sweet idea to draw your sister…then you can take it to England with you.

Progress, I suppose. Although I hear of (what I think) way too many “scheduled” births. Inductions and cesareans (sp?) are written in like any other appointments. Kinda’ weird to me.

And haven’t the maternity fashions changed!! My son was born in 1974 and I wore something designed by Omar the tentmaker, and now here are pregnant moms with skin tight tops bulging out to here.

back in ’72 when i told my supervisor i was going to have a baby, he actually blushed. i worked up til the day jason was due but he took his time getting here. took him 17 more days to be ready. i hope you do well on your portfolio. gotta have your name on everything. sometimes, blake forgets. i had to remind him a lot last year. take care,

My favorite bread is one made with white flour, lots of dill, onion, and cottage cheese to keep it moist. It tends to either be extremely light and full of holes or flat…lol. But it tastes wonderful.
