Working on Homework
I have been working on memorizing the seven elements of design this morning. We have a quiz tomorrow in which she will give us the name of the element, such as "Line" and we will have to write the definition on our paper. And in case you were wondering " A line is a path or edge where length is dominant. A line is a product of a point moved across a surface." And, no, I do not have it memorized as yet. My plan {not necessarily in this order} is as follows:
- write each one ten times {already done}
- walk around the room chanting them aloud and getting weird looks from Fred.
- write each one ten times
- ask Fred to dictate the word to me {in the order they are on the sheet} and I will see how much of the definition I can write
- immediately after do this, rewrite those I got wrong capitalizing the part I missed or got wrong
- write each one ten times
- ask Fred to call out each word in a different order from the sheet and see how many I can get right
- immediately after this, rewrite those I got wrong capitalizing the parts I missed or got wrong.
- take breaks between doing these things
- repeat ad infinitum today and tomorrow morning
I have got all of today and tomorrow morning to get these seven elements memorized. Today I also have to go outside and do four small sketches using line only which means no shading. Tomorrow afternoon we will first have our quiz and then start with charcoal.
So far today I have done the first writing of the elements of design list and been out for a walk. It is a lovely day. The temperature is 57 degrees and the sun is popping in and out. Since it is also spitting a few raindrops, I was in hope that I might see a rainbow but there was not enough rain or sun. I walked up the Main St. hill to the drug store and picked up a couple of prescriptions for Fred and then on through the back streets and onto the school walking track. I walked around there once and then back home through the quieter back streets. I really hate walking up or down Main Street since the traffic is so heavy that I have to have the music volume turned very high just to hear it over the cars and trucks.
After I have finished here, and after I have drunk my big glass of water, I am first going to chant elements of design and then go out with my sketch book and start on the first of the little drawings.
Until later…
Maybe at next dance class, you can chant the elements of design while you dance! 🙂 !! Hope ya have a lovely day! hugs, Weesprite

This sounds like a very time consuming class. It does sound rather interesting though. Who would have put so much thought into art. I guess that is why we have some wonderful masterpieces out there somewhere. My neice is going to college to be a graphic designer and is taking some drawing classes too. She is very artistic. I always wish I was, maybe she can teach me something.

I wish I had the time and money to take an art class. I miss drawing and painting and all of that fun stuff. It really does sound like you’re taking a great class, and I bet your studying techniques are quite helpful.

Can I use that list for my students to do? lol They can’t remember 10 vocabulary words in a week or two.

I now realize why I was only an average student — I had no idea that’s what one had to do to prepare for an exam. I’ve also heard that if you can put it to music, it also helps it to stick in your head. You will be the best student in the class–I just know it!

Good luck on your quiz!

Chanting – I never tried that!

Wow, my study habits would be really rusty, that would be hard.

I can see why you excel at everything you do! Aside from the noise on the main street there must be more auto exhaust fumes.

I hope that you get the elements quickly. The class sounds fun. I hope that you have a wonderful day!

I hope we get to see some of your finished work. 🙂

You’re going to ace the test!

The thing that I learned about line is that there are five types of line: 1. Horizontal 2. Vertical (These two lines represent rest, peace and stability. Also called static lines.) 3. Curved (represents comfort…used a lot in interior decorating) 4. Diagonal (represents tension) and finally 5. Zig-Zag lines (represent confusion or chaos.) Interesting, huh? Good luck on the quiz!!!
