Buying Art Supplies
I got up full of good intentions this morning and actually went for a walk before coffee and oatmeal.
I decided that today was the day to get my art supplies for the college drawing class I will be starting on the 24th. So, I looked for my list. It wasn’t where I expected it to be so eventually I decided I needed to download it yet again from the college site. But before I did, I glanced over to where I had put Fred’s art-supplies box which he is kindly lending me–and there it was. I gathered together this list and the receipt that showed I had paid for this course so I could get a discount from the store I was buying from. The printout said they give a 10% discount with a CCV class list and a CCV ID. Well, since I do not have an ID since I am not a traditional student, I figured the receipt should be enough. I put these two sheets into a manilla folder , gave Fred a kiss, picked up my purse and started off to the Big City.
Now, I only live about a 15 minute drive from said Big City so 15 or so minutes later found me parking in the parking garage that give the first two hours free. I took my key out of the ignition and reached over for my folder with the all-important list and receipt–only to discover it wasn’t there. Well, of course, I know exactly where I had left it. At home on the table. So, 15 minutes later, after getting a very surprised look from the woman in the checkout booth at the parking garage when I handed over a ticket which showed I had been there all of 5 minutes–I was back home and picked it up. Off I went again only to be held up by a fire truck and an ambulance right where I had to turn to go to the garage. Fortunately, they were just pulling out as I got there so I only had a short wait. I parked in the parking garage and walked up into Church St. Marketplace and to the art supply store. Fifteen minutes later, I walked out of there having spent a little over $65 and, yes, that was with the discount. I then walked over to Bruegger’s Bagels and had a Veggie Delite on an onion bagel. And, yes, I had written the calories down in my book before I left the house since I knew I was going to be eating lunch there.
After that, and feeling much better, I walked into a shop which has all sorts of wonderful pictures and pottery and earrings made by Vermont artists and craftsmen. I had no intention of buying anything but I found a case with some very unusual glass earrings and finished by buying myself a pair of yellow dangling ones. I got home to find a Driver’s Education car with a student practicing parking right where I usually park outside our apartment. I pulled up behind them and flipped on my turn signal and the student scooted out of my place in a big hurry. This has happened before because our street is very quiet . The Driver’s Education vehicles come down here to practice a lot.
So, here I am at home with only one more thing to get for this art class and that is a chamois which {the list said} I can get more cheaply at an auto-supply store. it just so happens that there is one within walking distance and I will use that incentive to get me out on my afternoon walk…
Until later….
Well, you really worked hard to get those art supplies today! And done good by getting that early walk in, too. I think you’re entitled to call this a day very filled with accomplishment! 🙂 ! hugs, Weesprite

I love Brueger’s… I’m not sure we have any where I’m living right now… it’s something to consider. I love the vegetable cream cheese. Art supplies… I wish I was artistically talented, like with painting and drawing. I envy that 🙂

RYN: It’s funny that you mention this because I was discussing this exact thing with Leslie a few weeks ago in response to Matthew’s talk about his father, and I forgot all about it until reading your note. I will have to suggest it to him. Thank you.

Art supplies are expensive! I’m surprised you got of that cheaply. What’s the chamois for?

I was in a design and drawing class this past semester, and I know how expensive they are. The only thing is, I didn’t get a discount, so it really hurt my pocketbook. 🙂 Have a good one!!! Josh
