Thursday

I got up early this morning to do two things–to get gingerbread made before Fred got up and to have the plastic peanuts {packing material in the shape of peanuts for those who don’t live in the States} in their boxes downstairs and out front for the Freecycle woman who said she would pick them up between 9 and 9:30 am. It was a good job I wasn’t standing out there waiting for her since they didn’t get picked up until I got back from my walk at 11 am! We have bins for recycleable and non-recyclable trash out back, but usually we had taken our packing  peanuts to the United Parcel Service {UPS} store and donated them. We were in that area a lot when we used to buy bread from the day-old bread shop out there but now I make most of the bread we eat and so we never get out there and the peanuts were piling up.

The gingerbread was ready by the time Fred got up so I told him he could unpack his bag and stay! We both had some for breakfast and the rest of it will be packed in plastic bags and frozen. It takes a couple of seconds only in the microwave to thaw the pieces out. Personally, I like them frozen!

I have had a couple of emails from Freecyclers about the clothes I am getting rid of so we shall see if these people turn up.

Because I have packed all my heavy sweaters away, the temperature today has dropped into the 40’s! However, I did keep out some transitional clothing and I have lots of clothes that layer well. {The forecast today says “plentiful” sun which makes me happy.}

Today:

  • Tutor Robin at 3 pm
  • Remember NOT to go to school to read with Nick since it is spring break!
  • Go for a second, longer walk this afternoon. The morning one was short because I forgot to charge the iPod last night and the battery was dead. It really makes a difference to how much walking I do.
  • Go to the library. {I will do that before I tutor Robin. She lives right next door to the library.}
  • Continue the purging of my clothes to offer on Freecycle

Until later…

thanks for your note. i think i will do it but not talk about what I’m doing! then i don’t have to listen to other people’s views on how i am spending my own money.

Ah – at first I though plastic peanut were going to turn out to be decorative items, like wax fruit. 😉

Music does seem to make a difference for me when I am walking too. What exactly is freecycle? I have never heard fo it.

April 21, 2005

I went and looked up the freecycle site…and signed up in my area! I am so excited – glad I read about it here.

One of these days, I’m going to have to break down and MAKE gingerbread! Everytime I read that you’ve made it, my mouth waters!!!!!! Love you! ~M

April 21, 2005

The gingerbread sounds wonderful on a cool day. It sounds like it would be good in Ice-cream too.

April 21, 2005

I make all my bread now too. We haven’t bought a loaf since I got the breadmaker.

I’m glad your happy home is still together. Saved by gingerbread. 🙂

ryn: I know your probably right about that, but it doesn’t make me feel any better you know?

gingerbread…YUM!!

April 21, 2005

Thanks for the note! I am glad to be back here, but will never catch up on a week’s worth of entries from people. Just had to take a bit of break; sometimes there’s other things to do.

Patrisha, “Plentiful sun” — I love that, it is SO new-england! And the gingerbread sounds wonderful, too! You are always so busy & constantly doing something good & fun. CONGRATS on every little thing! Love, Anna

I hope that you have a wonderful day! I need to clean things out too. Blessings.

(huggles) freecycle is a great way to get rid of excess stuff, isn’t it…

RYN: CompUSA has a sale going on for the shuffle.

You are really going to town with Freecycle, Patricia! Well, that doesn’t sound right, since ‘they’ are coming to you to pick things up, but you know what I mean. As for putting winter clothes away, one hardly knows what to do. It is supposed to snow here, Saturday and Sunday. Right now the wind is whipping up out there.

I’ve been reading your entries for – what – maybe a month, six weeks – and I have to say that I LOVE your life. 🙂 Unfortunately I’m much too restless and impatient a person to live with the “grace and dignity” that you do. But I can still admire and envy the people who don’t suffer from my defects, and who live in a way that’s consistent with their values.

Also: I’ve lived in the States all my life and I just learned within the past year that those pesky little styrofoam things were called “peanuts”. Also, I never take a walk (or a run) without my discman, either.
