Wednesday Afternoon w/Edit
EDIT: Robin called and told me I was supposed to be coming on Friday at 4 pm. The minute she said it, I knew she was right and I had the day written down incorrectly!
Ooops!
Well, here it is a little after 1 pm on Wednesday and I thought I was supposed to be tutoring Robin. I was just over there at her apartment building and when I buzzed her number, no one answered to let me in so I left a message for her. It is possible that I got the time wrong {it changes every week depending what she has to do} so I expect she will call me when she gets in. It is no big thing for me to walk over there since it takes about three minutes even when I stroll!
However, it is too chilly to stroll today. It is 44 degrees but feels like 37 and there is a very nasty sneaky cold wind. I have put away my flannel-lined jeans which have served me well throughout the Vermont winter, and today I could definitely feel that cold wind on my legs clad only in ordinary {albeit at least still size 14} jeans! I went for a walk this morning and I am glad I did not go up to the school’s walking track. It is a nice place to walk on a day when there is no wind but on a day like today I shiver at the thought of it.
The phone rang a few minutes ago and I snatched it up thinking it was Robin. It was actually my brother-in-law in England calling mostly to say he is taking good care of my sister. I am glad he is able to take over the cooking –they have a cleaner come in once a week– even though he has Parkinson’s. My sister goes to her oncologist on Wednesday and she will find out then her schedule of treatments. She doesn’t know yet what she will be taking but she knows she will be losing her hair so my BIL said they are going out later this week to get her a few pretty scarves. Although she has told me the national Health Service will provide her with a wig, at this point, she is pretty sure she will use scarves…
I am angry on her behalf because this is her second primary cancer. She had colon cancer a couple of years ago and had successful surgery for it. Unfortunately this lung cancer cannot, apparently, be removed by surgery. Somehow one tends to think that when one had cancer one time, that is it. I know *I* thought that way. I had renal cancer in 1998 and, although I never actually said it aloud, I was pleased that the cancer I had was so easily curable by removal of the kidny. I felt —and I know this sounds silly–that it was very unfair that four years later I had a different cancer! This time it was endometral cancer {cancer in the uterus} and, again, this one was treated by surgery plus radiation since it had spread, just microscopically, to the lymph nodes in my groin.
Well, on to more cheerful things. Even if I don’t hear from Robin, I am going to walk round there again to the library which is right next to her building. I have two books to return and it will get me out of the house. If Robin does call, Fred can redirect her to call me at the library.
Ooops! Change of plan–Fred just decided that he was off to the grocery store and the bank so I am staying here.
Until later..

You have such patience, I would have been upset if I had gotten there and no one was home. It was chilly here for my walk today too but now the sun is shining , may have to get out for another one . btw how far do you walk on your walks?

I agree, it seems unfair. But I hope your sister comes through her treatments with flying colors, and I hope you are well from here onwards! Gee, too bad you had such a chilly day. But ours hasn’t been hot either; c’mon summer! 🙂 hugs, Weesprite

What are they doing about your cancer now, or is it gone? My uncle has cancer too. It is so unfair that you beat it once and it comes back. I hope that this too can be cured. I also hope that your sister does well. It’s so good that you have lost weight and are walking. I took three walks on Saturday. I hope that you have a wonderful day! You are so sweet to be patient with Robin. Blessings

Oops, and oops again! These things happen. (even to you:)

I’m glad that she didn’t stand you up…. And yes, one always thinks that you can get it only once. I realize that is not the case. Sadly. I hope you’re family will be ok and make it through these treatments ok. I know I would chose scarves too.

I can understand those feelings.

We all do things like that at times

Have a great day. Your walking is an inspiration but haven’t started yet.

glad to learn I’m note the only one getting confused with ‘senior moments’ lately…LOL keep smiling..

Hi Patrisha, I’m with you about walking in the cold, biting wind. That does put me off of walking outside! Have a great day! Love, Anna

Thanks for your note, Patrisha. Actually I’m still crying. I need to start on my garden and get over this “leaky-eye syndrome”! Sometimes crying, even when unexpected, is not a bad thing, though. It’s a rather good thing. Here’s wishing you a lovely day! hugs, Weesprite

Well we have more in common. I had testicular cancer in 1998 (the surgery was performed on my wife’s birthday, and while she was in the middle of taking the bar exam – talk about stress!). Cancer free for 6+ years now. You seem to have a very widely-dispersed family! Mississippi, England, Vermont – don’t you like to be near each other? 🙂

Glad it was just a misunderstanding!
