Thursday Afternoon
For some reason, I am unbelievably tired. Fred went to take a nap and I joined him for about 30 minutes and I guess that has helped a bit but it has been a long time since I have been so exhausted. There doesn’t seem to be anything I can put it down too, either. I have not been doing anything particularly strenuous. All I have done today is to walk to the Senior Center to sign on for the art classes {first one tomorrow–Whoo Hoo!} and then up to the school to read with Nick.
We did read a chapter and a half of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and got to the part where Aslan is mentioned for the first time. If you haven’t read the book, Aslan is the lion of the title but when his name appears the reader is not told anything about him. However, it is obvious from the context that this character is going to be important in the story. When I stopped, Nick said, “You have read all this book before, right?” “Yes,” I said. He then read the title and said, “There is no lion yet!” I told him that Aslan was the lion and he said, “Ah! I was wondering if he was.” He is such a smart little boy –always thinking. The woman in charge of the project puts little worksheets in our folder and this time it was a list of “Tom Swifty” puns. I had to explain how they worked but he caugt on very quickly. The one that had Nick laughing the most was, “I didn’t get everything I needed from the store, “he said listlessly.
While I was up at the school, I met Carol C. who reminded me that the book club meeting is next Tuesday evening. Ooops! I haven’t read the book yet so I went round to the library and much to my surprise, Amanda had actually got a few copies from other libraries for the book club readers. It is Autumn Quartet by Barbara Pym, an author who writes lady-like gentle books about characters in English villages–not exactly my cuppa tea, so to speak, but that is one reason I joined the book club to try out different authors and genres. While I was there, I checked out the latest books by John Sandford and Karin Slaughter who are very much more my cuppa tea! But I will need to read the Barbara Pym one first since the book club meeting is on Tuesday.
Now I must toss the ingredients for the loaf of bread I promised Robin into the bread maker. Tomorrow I have the art class from 1 until 3 and then I go to tutor Robin from 4 until 5.
Until later…
I liked Autumn Quartet. The secret with Pym is not to try to read too many at a time. Because they are all so similar.

I’ll be interested in what you have to say about Autumn Quartet after you read it.

The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe is a great story. In fact currently a remake of the movie is being made here in NZ, starring a beautiful lovingly trained local lion called Zion..I watch him in a progamme called The Lion Man. Zion is an amazing beast and will outshine the stars of the movei I’m sure. Have a great day

You are a very busy young lady lately. I think for me getting tired in the afternoon is due to the mild days we are having and I am able to get outside and do some stuff. That may be for you too. Although you have gotten out alot all winter. I always get more tired this time of year especially due to daylight savings time this weekend.

I love the CS Lewis series so much….I have a 6 tape set of a BBC production of several of the books. I remember reading it when I was young….and didn’t make the spiritual connections then – but adored the books, the story, the characters.

Oh, I love Autumn Quartet, read it twice in fact, something I hardly ever do. I can’t wait to see what you think of it – in fact you remind me a bit of one of the characters in it. You’re probably still tired from your trip – take another nap?

I so enjoy hearing about your sessions with Nick. I know they are fun for both of you. About the gentle books about life in an English village….I’ve not read them, but I wish there were MORE “gentle books” and far fewer “harsh books” (and movies, etc.) The world needs more of that gentle stuff, really. hugs, Weesprite

I am looking to have my daughter tutored this summer we will see. She is learning disabled but if she doesn’t do some work she forgets every thing over the summer. I am going to be strict about them reading a little every day. Cedric is good about it if I say we are going to, but for Jewel it’s harder. I am trying to read some to her and have her read out loud to me. We will see. What kind
