Stuff I Need to Do Before I Go.
First, I really need to get my hair cut. But, I am thinking I will get it done when I am down South. I am fortunate that it is very difficult to give me a bad haircut so I think I will go into one of those chain hair-cut places in every mall and just get it done when I am on holiday.
I am still debating whether or not to take my laptop with me. It is a big heavy thing to lug on and off three planes. I usually carry a big black carry-on bag with all the necessities of travel but it isn’t big enough for my computer and the computer bag isn’t big enough {I don’t think} for all the necessities of travel. I am definitely ambivalent on this. One day it is yes, I will take it and stow the necessities somewhere about my person and other days it is no, I won’t take it because it is too big. I am very probably going to buy a digital camera when I am down South so that is yet another thing I will have to carry back with me. There is no access to the Internet at the house of the son I will be staying with but there is at the other son’s house and he tells me there is access in a couple of places in the town where he lives. On the other hand, I can get computer use for an hour every day at the library and I know I will be going there because I check out books to read while I am visiting. I have a library card used solely in the two weeks I am there once a year! Ok, I need to put out the travel necessities and see if they will fit into the computer bag. I don’t think they will, but I haven’t tried yet. In case you are wondering, the absolute necessities are passport and green card, ticket, money, Dramamine, small toothbrush and toothpaste, a hairbrush and a change of underwear in case my bag goes astray. Oh, and a book to read on the planes. Doesn’t seem like much when I list it. Hmmm…
Other things to do before leaving on Tuesday afternoon:
- get packing done Tuesday morning. This won’t be a lot because there is a washer and dryer I can use at my son’s house and I am going to buy some short-sleeved tops when I am there because all the spring/summer stuff will be out in the stores. {We still have sweaters in the stores here in Vermont! }
- get the laundry done on Monday. I have already reminded Fred that if he wants clean underwear and socks in the two weeks I will be gone, he must either give them to me on Monday or be prepared to go down two flights of stairs and do his own laundry while I am away!
- go to the last tutoring with Robin on Saturday. Make sure {and this means watch her write it on the calendar} she knows the dates I am gone.
- make a card with the planes numbers and the times for Fred. Make sure he has all contact numbers for me.
- send email to Mike and Melanie {landlords who live below us] with contact numbers in case anything happens to Fred.
- send email with contact numbers to my sister and brother-in-law in England in case they need to get in touch with me {Neither of them is in good health}
- make myself a card with all the contact numbers I need {both here and there}
- Make sure I have got all URLs and passwords for the bank on line and to access my email
- have all Verizon email sent to the other ISP. From past experience, Verizon netmail tosses me off line far too much when I am away from my home computer. The other ISP is much more reliable when composing mail on line on the library computers.
- I am fairly sure I have cards with the information needed in the previous three points but I need to check to be sure.
- have a massage on Sunday.
Until later…
I go nuts when separated from internet access for too long! lol

That’s quite a list! I vote for “simplify” –the less stuff to lug around the easier it is to travel. Definitely take the iPod and the charger, though. 🙂 RYN: I suspect you are right about the last straw. I’ve about hit that point a time or two, but I’ve chickened out. Which is why I’m trying to get stronger–so I won’t be such a chicken. Happy travels!

I go through the same mess whenever I travel, no matter how long the trip. It’s such a hassling mess, but it will also be nice to see your sons again, and get someplace warm.

You are very organized. 🙂

I hope you have an absolutely brilliant time on this trip!

I always debate about bringing the laptop… and usually I bring it simply because I have so much stored on it that I need quick access to. It’s worth lugging it… although I’ve never brought it on a plane. I hope that you have a lovely trip 🙂

Well, if you take your laptop you can make entries on the word program, in more detail, and post them when you get back.

Planning is part of the fun of the trip. I hope you have a really good time and enjoy some warmer temps while you are away. I am very contented here at home but as I hear your plans it makes me get itchy feet again. Have a wonderful time.

Enjoy your visit. The weather is quite nice down here right now – cool mornings (not COLD) and mild afternoons. Eh, leave the laptop at home so you don’t have to worry with it.But, there is a McDonald’s in Gulfport now that has free wireless internet access for laptop users these days. I think they’re trying to cater (ha, funny word to use in reference to McD’s) to the downtown business community

After such a stressful winter for you and Fred it will be extra nice to get away. Enjoy your trip!

If I had a laptop I think I’d be very tempted to take it but I see how it could be a bulky thing to carry around when you’re travelling.
