A GRRR! Morning

I got up early this morning and put the ingredients for a 1.5 pound loaf in the bread maker. When it was time to get it out, I couldn’t get the pan to unclip and come out. I walked away from it because I was so irritated. It didn’t help one bit to have Fred look at it calmly and apply the flat of a knife to the clip on the side where the basket had slipped out and below it. I get very annoyed with myself when I don’t see something perfectly obvious like that. {And I reduced the water a tablespoon and the bread rose perfectly! So maybe that was the problem or perhaps it was the Jupiter aligned with Mars thingy! I make a lot of bread but have no idea why some rises perfectly and some rises and then falls!}

Then we went off to Costco. I bought four things. When one leaves, a person at the door looks at and marks the receipt. I had always assumed that it was to be sure you weren’t trying to slip out with anything extra. So, imagine my suprise when I got out to the car and started to put the FIVE things in the back. There was a bag of Green Mountain coffee that belonged to the man who was standing in the line in front of me. Fred finished putting in the four things I had legitimately paid for and I went back with the coffee. I told the woman at the door what had happened and asked what I should do. She said, "Take it over to the service desk." I cast a swift glance at the service desk where there were two clerks working and EIGHT people waiting in line, and said politely and firmly, "I am sorry but I don’t have the time to do that. Here you are," and I handed it over to her, "and I was on register 12," I said showing her my receipt. Then I left.

So, we went home and Fred pulled up. I got the box with the four legitimate purchases out of the back and walked carefully over the icy sidewalk to the door. I expected him to be right behind me to open the door . I didn’t have my keys since I wasn’t driving and all my keys are on one ring. I stood at the door waiting for him and after a minute or two, realized he was sweeping the snow off the roof of his car and CHATTING to a neighbor? Ummm, excuse me? I am standing here at this door with this box which is getting heavier and heavier by the minute and you are chatting? Finally I said loudly, "Fred? Could you come and open the door for me?" he came, full of apologies saying he hadn’t seen me there. Oh, really? I am 5 ft 9 in and wearing a brilliantly yellow jacket and hat? "Well, I didn’t know you didn’t have your keys!" Ummm, I am standing in 17 degree temperatures outside the door because I want to? Sheesh!

Anyway, my irritablity has subsided and when I finish this, I will put on my coat and hat and scarf and gloves and orange vest and iPod—and go for the second walk of the day! LOL

Thanks for giving me a chuckle, even though none of it gave you one at the time. 🙂 Geez, imagine that, them expecting an honest person to go stand in line to return something you shouldn’t have been given in the first place! Honesty pays a price at times! I’m glad to know Joe’s not the only chatter; he would be likely to do the same thing Fred did. Here’s hoping the rest of your day goes better!

It’s cold here too, I hope it warms up and we both get some spring. You will have spring faster, then I when you go down to see your boys. I get annoyed like you do sometimes with Jim. I hope that you have a nice walk. Blessings.

🙂 Good for you for standing up to the costco guy!

Very funny to read, if not to experience.

I once called a department store to report that they’d delivered something twice. They drove me so crazy I told them to forget it and I gave away the extra stuff (a set of pots).

I must be some kind of bread psychic or something! LOL! I imagine the randomness of the rising and falling has to do with humidity. On a humid day, it probably gets more moisture than on a dry day. Next time that happens, check the relative humidity and see if it correlates.

I have wanted a bread maker for years…am truly envious. And I bet you look good in yellow….a VERY visible colour LOL. If ever I get another car I want a yellow one, its supposed to be the easiest colour to see on the road. So how come he didn’t notice you?? LOL RYN: what part of UK were you born? I was born in Bushey, Hertfordshire. hugs

I blame the bread falling on it having a bit too much liquid. They say air pressure effects bread rising but I can’t see how it would when making machine bread. It does frost your socks when they can correct a problem with the flick of a switch or something just as simple after you have been struggling. Or open a jar so easily (after you have loosened it for them). lol

Second walk … woohoo!

Somehow it seems disappointing to learn that you have a Costco in Vermont. But I’m sure it provides convenience, and one cannot stand in the way of progress.

Men… I’ve just been reading your diary again after a break and just wanted to say what an inspiration you are! Congratualtions on losing all the weight and also for having the patience to bake bread!
