Friday: A Short Entry

Before Fred was ill, we never answered the phone. It was always picked up by a machine. Our friends and relatives were told to identify themselves and one of us would pick up if we were there. However, during the time Fred was ill, whenever the phone rang, I leaped for it to answer before the message kicked in because it was usually a doctor, a visiting nurse or the visiting physical therapist. So, this morning when the phone rang at 7:45, I leaped out of sleep and out of bed to answer it! It was Robin, a disabled woman who is taking college classes and whom I used to help with her English when I worked at the library. She apologized for waking me up but I was still irritated! However, I will call the person she asked me to call. There is a small chance that I might get paid for tutoring Robin  if I call this woman and she approves of my credentials! So, we shall see.

Today is Friday and Fred and I have no one coming to the house and we are both rejoicing! No nurses, no physical therapists are scheduled. I may not even leave the house because it is too cold. Mind you, it is warming up more quickly than the forecasters said it would. However, “warming up” here in Vermont at this time of year means the temperature is above zero! I just checked and it is 12 degrees which is quite a jump considering it was minus 13 when the phone woke me up. Tomorrow the forecast is that we will have NO below zero temperatures. I will probably walk tomorrow…

Until later…

What a contrast to the discouraged entries you were making just a month ago! I’m so glad things are progressing to normal for both you & Fred. Happy weekend! Sounds like you may need to break out the bikini, eh?

Woo-hoo! Heat wave! LOL! Better get out the swimsuit and do some sunbathing! I also HATE having the phone ring before 9:00 in the morning or 9:00 at night.

It’ll be a little vacation in your own home 🙂

Yay for the day to yourselves!

Not answering the phone sounds like a pretty good idea. I’m so fed up of people trying to sell me things over the phone.

All those calls must get to be a bit much. Enjoy your time alone. Tomorrow will feel like spring here. It’s supposed to be above freezing.

You have the same weather we have..ouch, eh?

Above zero? I thought it was cold here! I can understand not answering the phone, sometimes I just don’t want to be bothered, especially if it’s at dinner time. Sounds like things are getting back to normal for the two of you. I’m glad of that. Take care, and I hope that you were able to walk.

That would be great if you got paid!

We never answer the phone either, the machine gets it. I always hate it when I have to answer it waiting for a special call and then it’s not who I thought it was. 🙂

I don’t answer my phone either unless I know who is calling

Joey and I recluses and would rarely answer the phone. When it rings, he hollers “I’m dead!” and I holler “I’m asleep!” Joe is the only one who always wants to see who’s on the other end of the line. When I was staying at Brother’s, it drove me nearly crazy, the amount of phone calls he got. Of course I had to leap up and answer it, because if he was napping or something…well, you know…

It was mostly “well-meaning friends” calling to inquire how he was doing, but you’da thought they’d have realized that no one could get any darn rest, with the phone jangling all day long. I am glad you and Fred got a day off from all company, calls, etc. It’s a blessing! And what, no snow? Can I send you some?? hugs, Weesprite
