What I Have Done Today

I didn’t really get much done today and the most important thing I didn’t do was to walk. I had really good intentions but somehow… Before I go to bed tonight, there will be a note attached to my computer with the word “Walk” on it. This has got  to be a priority in my life or I will gain weight since I am not being particularly careful about what I eat.

So, today I got up at 7:30 and washed a huge pile of dishes. I have noticed that I am back to washing the dishes for two people once a day as I used to before this medical stuff. This means I am less stressed. Controlling things that can be controlled is how I relieve stress. The reason we had such a huge pile of dishes is that Fred decided to cook last night. This is a Good Thing not only because he is a good cook but because this is one more step in getting back to normal. His friend Bill came to visit today after a two-week absence and was amazed by Fred’s improvement.

And that reminds me. When we went to see Fred’s primary doctor, she told us that when the surgeon went into his bowel to look at the site where the cancerous polyp was removed, he could find no trace of the site that was shown on the colonoscopy pictures as being a suspect area for the cancerous polyp growing down into the bowel {which is what was feared.} He also could find no sign that the area was cauterized which is very odd. All she could figure out is that in the five weeks between the removal of the polyp and the cauterization and the surgery, the area healed up. There is no doubt that the polyp was removed and that it came back from biopsy as cancerous. There is no doubt that the patient that this cancerous polyp was removed from was Fred! She was surprised that it had healed so well in five weeks. I am not surprised because Fred is correct when he says he is a quick healer. It is been a few days over a month since his stomach was slit open and surgery done on his bowel {“and, ” and his doctor mimed graphically by lifting up her hands at this point, “they lifted out his whole bowel and inspected all of it!”} and his scar is fading rapidly.

Anyway, back to what I did. The Freecycle person came around 10 am and picked up the two CD players. Next, I retyped the updated medication list for Fred. His doctor took him off one drug and added back his aspirin and another blood-pressure drug he was taking before the surgery. He has an updated list in the box where he keeps his pills, a smaller version in his wallet, and we have three copies on the bulletin board so he can take one whenever he goes to any doctor. You have no idea how many times he is asked to recite his medications and it is so much easier to whip out an up-to-date sheet…

Next I left the house about 12:30 for my massage at 1 pm. This was, as usual, fantastic. I always have a little boggle when I buy 24 90-minute gift certificates every new year for myself because it is a biggish amount of money to part with all at once, but because I do this, she gives me a really good discount and since they are already paid for, I don’t have to be concerned about can I afford them. Because I haven’t managed to take a walk for two days, I am inclined to think this is why my hip is hurting again and the massage really helped that.

Then I called Fred from town {Yeah! my cell phone is working!} and told him I was going to the grocery store to get salad greens and a couple of other necessities to which he added ice cream! I came home, made a salad and ate a quick sandwich so I wouldn’t starve to death before suppertime. After Bill went home, Fred ummmm demonstrated how much better he is feeling. {and, no, I am not giving details except to say he really likes the feel of my skin after a massage !}

Until later…
