A Friday Entry
OK, today hasn’t been too bad. I slept until 8 am and then had home-made bread toasted and went for a walk. It wasn’t a full 30 minutes because of the slush. I really detest slogging through slush and it becomes such an effort that I give up early. Then I grit my teeth and went out for groceries.
I did quite well with this since I had a list but I forgot the coffee filters although they were on the list and also didn’t realize that I should have bought milk. I had thought there was a bottle in the refrigerator but Fred had used a lot of it making himself a milk shake. So, back to the store tomorrow.
We are spending a lot more money on groceries because I am buying. I do not have the energy or interest to hunt for bargains as Fred does. If I see it and I think we need it, I buy it. Fred gets real pleasure out of bargain hunting and he also saves money. So, today I paid for the groceries using my personal debit card and I told him I will do this every third big buying trip. This will assuage my conscience at not bargain hunting and give him an incentive to get better so he can get out and do the shopping again. He told me I didn’t need to do this and I said that yes, I did. He could regard this as an executive decision of the same kind as the one he made when he decided to check out of the hospital intensive care ama. You know, the sort of decision which is made without discussion and for which there is no recourse. LOL
He wants me to make him some “secular-type” cards to send to various friends to let them know what is going on in his life. I was out today at the drug store and at the grocery store looking for this kind of left-over Christmas card for him .{No religious cards since he is an atheist.} Then he came up with the idea that I could make him some. Yes, I can, but not this evening {or any evening for that matter.} As he well knows, I have neither energy nor creativity after about 3 pm. I told him I would be happy to make him a couple of drafts to choose from but it will be tomorrow morning…
Until later…
I always forget something when I shop, too, and would rather take a beating than go shopping, most days. I Hope Fred is able to shop again fairly soon! Making cards…. that sounds like a good project. I can well understand the “not past 3 p.m.” stipulation, though! Here’s wishing you a good night. hugs, Weesprite

I HATE grocery shopping!!!!! I shop at the same store every week cause I KNOW where the stuff I need is, and I can get in, grab it, and get the hell OUT!!!!!!! Sooooo not ever going to be something I enjoy… though I have to admit, the supermarkets in FL had some intersting stuff in them, that I’d never seen before and I found myself reading labels on things like Conch!!!! Love ya! ~M

I zipped through the grocery store as fast as I could today, too. It helped that I didn’t run into anyone I know. I’d love to see what kind of design you come up with for Fred’s cards.

I understand your shopping habits very well, but I wouldn’t have a few months ago. I used to be a coupon clipping, bargain hunting machine…but that was when I shopped for 3 people plus a bunch of AJ’s teenaged friends and 3 pets. Now I have NO energy or desire to do price comparisons and go to 3 stores to save $2.00.

spouse loves to grocery shop… I clip coupons and he hunts for bargains…. I’d never have food in my house if spouse didn’t buy it!…… hope Fred is feeling better…. 🙂

If I remembered everything I went to buy (I never make a list) I would shop about twice a month. As it is I shop almost every night. lol You are nice to make him cards. Take care of yourself, though. OKAY?

I vote for a newsletter format. Decorated with snowmen and ribbons, and a few paragraphs telling what’s been going on. Then print off as many copies as he needs, plonk them into envelopes. Maybe he can handle addressing them from his bed???

J is like that too. The sad part is that he whines about it, and won’t do the hunting, but expects me to. And make decent meals out of it as well. Sigh. I simply can not understand that sort of thinking, myself. Great if you have the time and energy…

I wish I was one of those people who could pour over the grocery hand-outs & come up with great savings. Not for me! I RUN through the aisles, hating every minute in the store. Yes, it’s soon time Fred get up & go shopping!! Love, Anna

After 40 years, grocery shopping is something I put off as long as possible and don’t like doing at all. I understand completely.

Did your survey disappear? I found it inspirational and wanted to leave a note telling you so. Feeling in control of food and weight and exercise is such a good thing – and it’s available to us all. Doesn’t mean you have to be obsessive either. You helped me at least think about climbing back on the wagon. Oh and I love hearing about the neighbor’s dog. !touch on the arm!

Good advice from MM, his friends will be so glad to hear from him. And aren’t you good to him too.

I have one thing on my grocery list. I’ve already forgotten what else I wanted

*huggs* good job on the grocerying, LS told me last time to try and keep it under a $100 but I ended up spending $132 whoops! : )

Thanks for your notes! I am kinduv excited about the job change, IF I get the job, of course. I might not. But I think I’ve made a good decision to look, and keep looking. It’s time for a change. Time to get back into something that is not just a “comfort zone” but makes more use of my interpersonal abilities. Here is wishing you (and Fred) a good day! blessings, Weesprite

I despise grocery shopping!!! Ugh, I never know what to buy, and when I do, I don’t know where it is. Then there’s all the other people out there, just like me, wandering around trying to find something for dinner. I just don’t do well grocery shopping. Take care, and have a wonderful weekend.

Hello…what’s with the “not creative” stuff? I seem to recall you change your diary page format quite often with photos you edit with computer software and they look pretty creative to me. It is a good sign Fred wants to reach out for his friends and writing to them should keep him occupied for awhile.

ryn: I also have been reading since I have been in kindergarten, I read the book “Sam & the firefly” out loud to the class. LOL! Not nearly as impressive as “The wind in the willows”, also it happens to be one of Kim’s favorite books. *huggs* I can knock out a 500 page novel in just a matter of a few hours. I do not just “read” books, I consume them. : )

I’m the same when I go grocery shopping – Boyd usually does it & he loves getting the bargains as well – I just buy what we need – and usually what we don’t need too!

Could Fred not make the cards himself?
