Ole Grumpy!

I just got back from going to see Fred in hospital and he is definitely the title of this entry! Mind you, I guess he is entitled. He was given morphine for the pain of the incision and, like me, he immediately felt sick. He was given something to help the sickness and bloating but, of course, being Mr-I-Know-My-Own-Body, he isn’t listening to me or his doctor when we say give it time—the feeling of going to vomit and being bloated will ease up! So, he is not pressing the little button that gives him the measured dose but it isn’t that he isn’t in pain!

One thing that we are both  annoyed about is that his surgeon had said he could bring in his own insulin and check his own blood but when I tried to hand it over to the nurse last night before he was taken to his room, I was told emphatically that I should take it home. So I did. This morning, written right there on his treatment plan is “Patient will check his own glucose level and inject insulin as needed.” Grrr! And of course, being the trusting person I am, I assumed that that nurse knew what she was talking about and didn’t bring it in with me this morning. I offered to make a second trip back this afternoon but I must say I was relieved when Fred said that tomorrow would be fine… And, in the category of annoying things, the person he is sharing the room with had two visitors and one of them had a toddler who was constantly walking around the curtain and grabbing at Fred.

I just got a phone call from Fred from the hospital and he he told me that he finally listened to the doctor and gave them permission to put a tube down his nose, and drain him of all that stuff that was making him feel sick and bloating his stomach up to a ten-month pregnancy. He sound SO much better and so normal that after I put the phone down, I burst into tears! And he said he had pressed the pain-button and he could feel the pain subsiding. I had to telling him that I was really enjoying saying “I told you so!” He is SO stubborn but I love him anyway and I told him so!

Until later…

awwwww! I hate surgeries and understand the bloating. To top it off I am allergic to morphine too. YUK! I am glad he is feeling better. *huggs*

*hugs* Very best wishes to you both.

being grumpy is a good sign right? When my mom started driving me crazy I knew she must be getting better!

Bless his heart. I hope he perks up soon.

Sometimes drs and nurses dont tell each other things. That is a hassle about the insulin. Glad Fred is better. Poor guy.

I hope he is feeling better soon

You are both in my thoughts… I’m glad he’s allowed them to do that and is sounding better already! 🙂

So good that he is followings doctor’s orders now. I can certainly understand not wanting to though with the nausea and bloating though. hugs, Serena

Glad to hear he is doing better!! Make sure you take care of yourself while he is getting better.

Thank goodness Fred finally listened to the doctor and allowed them to help him! And now is using his morphine pump and is not having pain! Now if only morphine could make it less annoying to have a toddler coming around the curtain! Those people need to keep their toddler away from Fred; geez. Some people are so inconsiderate. I hope you have a much better day tomorrow….Fred, too! Weesprite

My goodness. I feel terrible for him.

I read somewhere that people with adequate pain control mechanisms heal faster. Wishing you a good night’s rest tonight.

Glad things are going better now. I’ll bet you are exhausted and hope you get some rest.

December 15, 2004

so glad he is feeling better, Patrisha. Get some rest tonight:)

My father had the same surgery as Fred. My Mother said the morphine made him mean and nasty…especially to her. He was paranoid and thought the Dr.’s were trying to kill him. LOL I’m so glad Fred is getting better. Prayers everyday for both of you 🙂

Oh the POOR baby!!!!! But you know, if he’s like most men, grumpy is a GOOD sign. If they’re too sick to complain, you’re in REAL trouble! Tell him to hurry and get well!!!!!!!!!!!! And YOU take care of you!!!! Love ya! ~M

Men! Glad he finally listened. What a relief.

I’m glad Fred is doing well. {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}

Best wishes to Fred. Hope he feels much better, VERY soon. Take care of yourself, too.

I’m shocked that they let a toddler in the hospital room. I thought visitors had to be 12 or so. Thank goodness Fred finally took the morphine and let them entubate him. Gunther ripped the tube out during his hospital stay. Not good! A nurse called me and asked me if I could get him to co-operate. It’s great that Fred listens to you, eventually.

men can be so stubborn. glad he finally let the drs help him to feel better. take care,

I’m glad that he’s finally getting some relief.. and who in the world would allow a toddler to bother someone who had just had surgery? Ridiculous

I am glad that he is feeling a bit better now. How very rude of his roomates company .

I’m glad that Fred finally cooperated. Sometimes, just sometimes, Drs do know.

Oh, this makes me feel weepy. You and Fred are so lucky to have found each other. How would he have gotten through any of this without your wonderful support and love? It’s a great story, you two.
