Friday
Since I fell asleep at 5:30 this morning and got up at 9:30 this morning, I know you are not surprised to hear that even after a two-hour nap, I am still tired.
Some lady with a strong southern accent called me late in the evening yesterday requesting I call her about this money I have saved that has to be disbursed to me this year since I am 70 -and-a-half. Anyway, I mentioned her accent only because it reminded me that when I first went to live in Mississippi, I was constantly asking people to repeat themselves because their accent distracted me from what they were saying. {Of course, MY English accent had the same effect on them!} Anyway, after being away from the South for going-on-six years, I had to listen to the message three times before I understood what she was asking! She was very helpful when I called her back and we got it all sorted out. She is going to send the paperwork back with, as she said, “lots of little stickies” all over it showing me what changes to make and where to initial it.
The doctor has STILL not called and told Fred what time the surgery is on Tuesday.
Don’t you just wish they’d CALL already! Sheesh!

They should have called by now! Seems like we have to hound people to get any information at all these days, alas. It’s a bit comical, accents and trying to understand them. I find people with a Boston accent quite hard to understand. And then there are the people who just seem to talk as if they have a mouthful of marbles! What ever happened to ENUNCIATION???? Hope you have a good evening!

You’ll find out Monday – sometimes they don’t know until the last minute themselves what will be happening in operating rooms. It’s frustrating, yes, but one of those evils.

Oh man I hate when they don’t call like they say they will.

Hee! I am glad I am not alone! A lot of the time, I may seem shy to these people, but the reality is, I am afraid of not understanding what they say, because that is often the case!Actually, I am moe south now, but have an easier time, as we are in a more.. uh, let’s say EDUCATED area.. :o) When we first moved to the south, the workers who were fixing up the house we were moving into, I could –>

…understand NOTHING out of their lips, and later on, a repair guy who also worked for the landlord came to fix the fridge and the a/c, well, he told me all the directions on how to use it (as it was now southern engineered now, you know) and when my husband got home, I told him to call him, because I had understood NOTHING! Oh, I understood the pointing and knob turning.. lol.. And I –>

… am also hard to understand because of how FAST I talk! And we shorten everything! In fact, reecently when with some northern relatives, we were struck funny by the fact we say — “j’eet?” instead of “did you eat” LOL! I never realized until someone pointed out that we all did so! And there are many more examples, but I have hogged enough of your note space! Sorry everyone! ~ Carrie
