Thursday
I went for a 50 minute walk this morning, my first for two days. The well-wrapped bunion has survived it with no screaming-in-agony complaints. {I pay no attention to slight discomfort.} When I have finished this, I am off to the local mall to the Payless shoe store. I know they have size 11 shoes and I think they may have wide widths.
It is interesting to notice how over the years manufacturers are gradually acknowledging that we taller people DO exist. I can remember that years ago when I found two pairs of shoes in my size, I bought them both right then and there because to find them in the store was so rare. Now, even chain stores like Payless have the bigger sizes for women. Mind you, I checked JC Penney on line and their shoes { online anyway} went up to 10’s and no wide width in that size.
Yesterday I made gingerbread. Before it cooled completely, I ate three pieces. During the course of the day, I ate three more pieces. Each piece is 100 calories. That means that yesterday, I ate 600 calories of cake. Not what one would call good nutrition! But I am not beating myself up over it. I don’t do it every day AND I did not eat it in addition to my normal lunch. It was my lunch–well, the first three pieces were. The next two were afternoon snacks and the last one was dessert after the evening meal. So, now I am gingerbreaded out for a while and can leave it alone. I have had not the slightest interest in eating any today. In fact, I am eating lunch as I type–a melba-rye bread, Marmite and Jarlsberg cheese sandwich, an apple and one-and-a-half cups from the huge salad bowl kept full in the refrigerator. And, as I found after my shower this morning, I have not gained a pound after two days of no programmed exercise. That was my big {though irrational} fear–that I would get on the scales and they would be up from 160.
Ok, lunch is over. Time to brush my teeth and head out for the mall where, since I have had lunch already, I should have no trouble beating off the seductive Sbarro mushroom pizza slice that drags me into the food court every time I go to the mall. {I may succumb to the smallest cup of Ben and Jerry’s raspberry frozen yogurt, though!}

When I was in junion high school, I already wore a size 10 shoe. It was IMPOSSIBLE to find shoes in that size back then. I ended up having to wear very frumpy “old woman” shoes, and was so embarrassed about it. So glad shoe manufacturers are wising up. Of course, people are taller and bigger these days anyway. I could write a book about clothing/shoe shopping as a teenager. Miserable!

I just realized, I love the taste of ginger yet have never had gingerbread. Now that’s sad. 🙂
