Heart Problems
This morning my partner got up feeling not-so-good. Now, this is not unusual. He is NOT a morning person and usually, as the day goes on he feels a lot better. But not this morning.
About 11:30 I saw he was taking his pulse, and, yes, it was back again. About a year ago he had a really bad bout with a racing-super-fast pulse. We went to the emergency room and he was kept in hospital overnight, the first time he had been in hospital in his whole 73 years! {he was born at home.} And while he was there, his body itself corrected the runaway heart beat. Since then, he had had a couple of times where his heart seemed to be stuttering, skipping a beat or two and then rushing to catch up. He is VERY aware of his body and can always tell when he needed food or insulin {although he always tests his blood sugar to be sure.} He has had a stress test which showed no heart damage and wore a heart monitor for a few weeks but his heart refused to cooperate and kept beating steadily while he was wearing the monitor.
Today, when he said it was happening again, I insisted he call his doctor and report what was happening. So, while it was actually happening, he went to the hospital and had an EKG done. The doctor he saw said it seemed a typical atrial fibrillation and when I asked what caused that, he basically said it was something that happens when one is old…
What is going to happen, after his regular doctor has been consulted, is that in addition to the aspirin he takes daily, he will be taking a blood thinner to help solve the possible problem of blood clots…
This is worrying.
