Maybe it’s a German or Dutch saying. I like it. People who meet me after reading what I write online are often surprised at how slow I am. “But your notes are always so quick.” They don’t see the time I spend editing them.
That book sounds really interesting 🙂 I love reading stuff like that, for my dissertation I’m studying the Mass-Observation diaries during WW2, if you haven’t read any I’d really recommend them xxx

i have a large collection of stories written by Jewish folk from the WWII experience and yes, Anne’s diary as well. She was quite perceptive for her young age.

wow…some quote that. very true.

I enjoyed reading Anne Frank’s diary when I was younger.
I was just reading a mystery (historical) that takes place in Istanbul and the author says something very similar about the city. It is a place where people belong. Everyone has some place to belong. It is such an important concept.
That is a wonderful quote. I read The Diary of Anne Frank years and years ago, and don’t remember much about it other than the generalized horror of what happened. I’ve gotten very interested in WW2 in the past few years, though, since my dad was there and he talks about it more and more the older he gets. That certainly makes it a lot more real and immediate.
Good quotes. Very true: “No-one should want anything except to find this place in life, the centre of his potential to love and be loved.” Love is so powerful – and the lack of it can be so destructive. Very best wishes, A
I’ve caught up with your last dozen or so entries. Your life is never dull. My husband was born and lived in Reading. He was born in 1937 and has so many WWII memories ie wearing his Mickey Mouse gas mask, air raid sirens, a bomb landing near his house, a man who wore a trench coast and was a black marketeer and came to the house, opened the coat which had large pockets sewn inside containing skinned and dressed rabbits…all very interesting to me…have you read Suite Francaise? a wonderful WWII memoir…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suite_franaise_(Irne_Nmirovsky)
Even though I’ve read Anne Frank many times, I had forgotten that bit. I think that is why I have always written. I wrote my own friends when I was a child. Conjured up a sympathetic listener. And OD finally gave me real ones.

I like that saying a lot, too. Is the present-day version, I wonder “Computer screens have more patience than people”?
