Willow’s trying to comfort Nikki. Writing that big letter to your mom was such a great idea. She can read it over and over again. Very thoughtful of you. Rotten to just miss the writing competition deadline.
Laughed delightedly about you getting your “STRIMMER” out. Is that a fast-twirling plastic string that cuts grass and weeds? And you poor dazed souls puzzled over what to do on nearly dry days. Please mail water to Iowa./ My only fear is that your Mum will be so thrilled by your remarkable letter it may cause a fainting spell. Being myself of the era of the fat envelopes (mailed and happily received), I think letters are irreplaceable. What a dear daughter you are! / Love that picture of Nikki and Willow. I have missed you all. I’m sorry my life has been extremely disjointed and I’ve been unable to note. Thank you for your kind notes and always know that I will be back and that I am missing your exceptional entries.
what a neat thing to do for your mum. Gone are the days of handwritten correspondence. Wonder if they even teach it at school now. I am sure the fountain pen has gone. remember ow we had to learn that

My brother does this for our mothers — sends her newspaper clippings, magazine articles, postcards, print-outs of e-mails from our overseas relatives and things like that. I must say, even though this brother lives out of town, he takes up a lot of the burden in keeping my mother happy.
I love letter writing and I still have 2 fountain pens from back in the 60s a Sheaffer and Parker and a Mont blanc even have my bottle of quink ink heheh
you guys are having a rotten summer are you not…. if it ever actually arrives! love the photo of Nikki and Willow…. glad to hear that you are working on the writing even if you did miss the cut off date. Such is life – there will be another competition I promise. For my latest WIP Im up to 40,000 words…..
The letter to your mom is the best idea ever — I bet she was absolutely thrilled. I miss the days of real live letters too, as much as I love email, it just isn’t the same. Cousin E and I started writing letters when she went to college, and it was so much fun to get long, hilarious letters from her! I hope your weather has improved – we’ve had a lot of rain these past few weeks, but atleast the mornings are usually sunny.

Willow is beautiful! Yes, it is lovely to receive a letter through the post. Not many people bother any more now that we have emails and texting!

Ilove getting newsy letters, we used to write pages and pages when we were younger. It got so we’d number them, so we knew which day it was written.
